South Carolina women's basketball super fan Plies gifts Dawn Staley gem-studded chain

South Carolina women's basketball super fan Plies gifts Dawn Staley gem-studded chain Show Caption Hide Caption Are we underestimating Dawn Staley and South Carolina this year? USA Today's Mackenzie Salmon and Meghan Hall talk about how this women's South Carolina team is slightly overlooked as we approach March Madness. Sports Seriously COLUMBIA, S.C. – Rapper Plies gifted South Carolina women's basketball head coach Dawn Staley a gem-studded chain ahead of the Gamecocks' first-round March Madness game Friday. The pendant, shaped as the NCAA Tournament championship trophy, includes the three years South Carolina won national titles – 2017, 2022 and 2024 – and a studded basketball on the top. On the back it reads: 'Dawn Staley / 'God is within her she will not fail! Psalm 46:50.'' Staley posted a photo of the dazzling pendant on her X and Instagram accounts, writing: 'I know you didn't gift me this piece of treasure for anything but love. I so appreciate you for doing your big one but you always have done it big. Thank you for your love, your support & your organic belief in @GamecockWBB. I'll wear it proudly knowing our mission.' Plies responded on X by saying if he had to describe a hero, it would be Staley, and that she inspires him. Plies is a rapper from Fort Myers and a former wide receiver at Miami University in Ohio. He is a known supporter of the South Carolina women's basketball team, attending the 2024 NCAA Final Four in Cleveland as well as regular-season games. He brought Staley on stage during his concert in Columbia last May. In February, Plies picked South Carolina to defeat UConn in Columbia as a celebrity guest picker on College GameDay's debut women's basketball show. Why the SEC Tournament's top seed for Texas (or South Carolina!) is left up to a coin flip

Texas or South Carolina's reign as the No.1 seed in the SEC Tournament is left up to a coin flip. No, really. It is. There's a possibility that both the Longhorns and the Gamecocks will tie for first place in the SEC. How does that happen? Well, since the teams split the season series and share the same conference record (14-1), the default option to break a tie is to quite literally flip a coin. As you might imagine, that sounds entirely stressful, and Dawn Staley not very happy about it."We control our own destiny, and then if we take care of business, and Texas takes care of business, our fate is in a coin toss. Yay!" Staley sarcastically told the media earlier this week. "I think we should've thought a little bit more ahead of this situation knowing that we were bringing a Texas and [an] Oklahoma into the SEC." If @TexasWBB and @GamecockWBB both win out, the No. 1 seed in the SEC Tournament would come down to a coin Staley: "I think we should've thought a little bit more ahead of this situation knowing that we were bringing a Texas and a Oklahoma into the SEC." — Matt Dowell (@MattDowellTV) February 26, 2025 View this post on Instagram A post shared by espnW (@espnw) However, Staley understands the situation and insinuates that there are no bad feelings about the coin flip. "I'm not trying to throw the [SEC] commissioner under the bus by any means ... It's unfortunate it's coming down to that. Hopefully, we can take care of business," Staley said on Friday. "I look forward to the coin toss at this point because that means we won. So, it is what it is at this point ... We're gonna call up to the coin gods ... that it flips over on the Gamecocks' side." Dawn Staley was asked further about the potential coin flip that would decide the No. 1 seed at the SEC Tournament:"I look forward to the coin toss at this point because that means we won. It is what it is at this point. We're gonna call up to the coin gods..."@GamecockWBB — Matt Dowell (@MattDowellTV) February 28, 2025 This article originally appeared on For The Win: Texas or South Carolina top seed in SEC Tournament left to coin flip

Texas women's basketball fans react to win over LSU: 'We should be No. 1'

Texas women's basketball is firmly entrenched atop the Southeastern Conference. In front of a sold-out Moody Center crowd Sunday, Texas coach Vic Schaefer led his team to a win over Kim Mulkey's No.5-ranked LSU 65-58. The Longhorns shot a miserable 18.9% in the first half but managed to bounce back, outscoring the Tigers 46-30 in the second. Though Texas guard Madison Booker shot 3 of 17 from the field, she made all 10 free throws for 16 points, 10 rebounds and three assists. Post Taylor Jones had 12 points and eight rebounds, while Rori Harmon collected 10 points, five assists and four rebounds including a clutch mid-range jumper that effectively iced the game. More: Texas basketball: Is Madison Booker on a pace to become school's all-time leading scorer? Texas hasn't lost since Jan. 12 and has no more ranked opponents on its schedule. Three games remain until the end of the regular season giving way to SEC Tournament play and eventually, March Madness. Here are some reactions to Texas women's win over LSU. Texas comes back from a 12-point deficit to beat LSU. Let's head to Vic Schaefer's postgame. — Eric Henry (@EricCHenry_) February 16, 2025 LSU had no business losing that fuckin game. refs were terrible but basically a no-show from them in the 4th. Texas fake demons btw — LANI ❦ (@___lovelani) February 16, 2025 In my opinion, it would've been @LSUwbkb biggest regular season win under @KimMulkey. Texas is obviously a powerful opponent, but #LSU is their own worst enemy so often with agonizing turnovers and silly mistakes. This game was there for the taking. — Jacques Doucet New (@WAFB9Sports) February 16, 2025 Credit Texas, but LSU was up 12 with under 15 to go and lost by 7. That's the kind of game you build on…if it's in December. In Feb it's a collapse. — Charles Hanagriff (@C_Hanagriff) February 16, 2025 Texas beats LSU which means LSU drops to 2nd in the SEC @GamecockWBB and Texas now sit at the top of the conference and are the big favorites to win the rest of their gamesA reminder that a coin flip would decide the No. 1 seed at the SEC tournament if they are co-champs — Matt Dowell (@MattDowellTV) February 16, 2025 Texas takes down LSU at home in a massive win for the Longhorns. A'ja Wilson and Bam Adebayo (finally!) hard-launched their relationship

A'ja Wilson and Bam Adebayo are officially a thing. First, let me be the first to say that neither one of them owes us a thing about their relationship. If they never revealed anything, that's their business. But, after months of speculation, it was getting harder and harder to ignore them showing up for one another and that they weren't totally adorable. I mean, c'mon. 'Favorite olympian from out of town?' The fans were swooning. Thankfully, A'ja knew precisely what she was doing by dropping that line during her recent jersey retirement. It was planned. 'The beautiful thing about our relationship, and our bond, is that we're very aware of things,' she recently told Adrienne Gaffney of Elle. Here's more from A'ja on her relationship with Bam: 'We know how to navigate through a lot of different things and never shy from moments, but also make sure that we uplift [each other].' 'I would've been doing a disservice if I did not mention my favorite Olympian. Because of that favorite Olympian, you see the best of me. Because of the care and the support that not a lot of people see all the time. If I did not recognize my special Olympian, he wouldn't be able to get his flowers. So, in that sense, I think it was just a perfect time.' 'It was just a moment that I would love to share because people should know that I'm not alone. I have an amazing support system behind me.'
