Vizag sees dual protests: TDP targets media, YSRCP slams govt. on women's safety
The city witnessed a series of protests on Tuesday as both the ruling and the opposition parties took to the streets over separate issues.
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) staged a protest rally condemning the derogatory remarks made by journalists during a televised debate on a channel owned by ex-CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy's family. Meanwhile, the opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) staged a protest alleging a rise in crimes against women in the State under the NDA government.
Led by TDP city president, Gandi Babjee, the women's wing staged a protest at the party office. The protestors alleged that the YSRCP had no respect for women and farmers in the State. Raising slogans against Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and his spouse, Y.S. Bharathi Reddy, the protestors demanded an apology from them. The Jana Sena Party (JSP) also organised protests at Pendurthi and a few other places.
Meanwhile, the YSRCP women's wing staged a protest near the LIC building, alleging crimes against women have risen in the past year. They claimed that under the YSRCP government, the Disha app helped protect women. They alleged that the NDA government has failed in maintaining law and order in the State.
