Prayagraj plans to replace old pipelines and upgrade water supply

Prayagraj: Residents of Prayagraj, long plagued by contaminated water supply, are in for some relief. The jalkal (water) department has unveiled a comprehensive plan to replace over two-decade-old, damaged pipelines, aiming to tackle the persistent issue once and for all. A budget of around Rs 30 crore has been allocated for the execution of this scheme, which is expected to begin after the monsoon season. The pipelines targeted for replacement span approximately 50 to 60 kilometres, most of which are now severely dilapidated and responsible for the contamination of water in several areas. According to jalkal general manager Kumar Gaurav, a zone-wise survey will commence soon, focusing on assessing the extent of damage and planning the replacement work accordingly. The initial survey will be carried out in prominent localities such as Preetam Nagar, Rajapur, Ashok Nagar, Allahpur, Shivkuti, Salori, Sadiabad, Daraganj, Naini, Phaphamau and Kareli. This survey is expected to be completed within 10 to 15 days. Currently, the department replaces pipelines only in response to complaints. However, the planned large-scale replacement signifies a proactive step toward providing clean and safe drinking water to the residents. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cuối cùng, chơi miễn phí game chiến thuật hay nhất 2025! Sea of Conquest Phát ngay Undo Mayor Ganesh Kesarwani has also expressed commitment to ensuring the replacement of dilapidated pipes within the current financial year. Notably, the city's drinking water infrastructure spans over 1,600 kilometres, with 125 tube wells and a daily consumption of 402 million litres of water. Around 80% of this supply comes from the city's water treatment plants. In addition to the drinking water lines, the sewer infrastructure is also set for a major revamp. During the Maha Kumbh, the movement of heavy vehicles caused extensive damage to sewer lines, resulting in frequent choking and the flow of contaminated water onto roads. The affected sewer lines, which stretch across nearly 100km, will be repaired in areas including Salori, Daraganj, Allahpur, Sadiabad and Baghada. The initiative is a significant step toward ensuring a healthier urban environment and marks a much-needed upgrade in the city's basic infrastructure. With over one lakh sewer connections currently active, the timely completion of this project is expected to bring substantial relief to the residents of Prayagraj.
