Veg pulao, ice cream flavour nawab progeny's Mangal feast
Lucknow: In a heartwarming display of communal harmony, Nawab Syed Mohammad Asad, businessman and descendant of the third nawab of Awadh, Muhammad Ali Shah, continued his family tradition of organising bhandara (community feast) on Bada Mangal in the city on Tuesday. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Asad, who has been faithfully carrying forward this legacy dating back to nawabi era, said. "I've been witnessing this tradition since childhood when my father would organise these feasts during the Jyeshtha month of Hindu calendar." The tradition is to serve all regardless of religious belief. Over the years, bhandaras have offered rice with chhhola, rajma, kadhi, puri sabzi, and boondi. This year, Asad offered veg pulao and ice cream of mango, strawberry, orange, pineapple and lemon flavours. "I organise bhandara not only to preserve my ancestral legacy but also because I believe it's my duty to serve those who struggle for two square meals of the day," said Asad. His mother, Husna Begum, emphasised that the tradition aimed to preserve Lucknow's famous Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb, where people of different faiths coexist harmoniously. "We hope our future generations will continue the tradition as also our family legacy," she added. Beside the annual feasts, Asad has contributed to the city's interfaith harmony by installing coolers in several temples, including at Koneshwar temple and Lete Huye Hanumanji temple, demonstrating his commitment to fostering communal brotherhood. Meanwhile, Bada Mangal was celebrated by Leaders Club at the Central Bank of India, Faizabad Road. Prayers were offered to Lord Hanuman for communal harmony and national integration, Rahul Dhawan, captain of Leaders Club said, "We have Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs in our team and we wish to sustain the Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb of Awadh," he said.

Bada Mangal begins today with bhakti and bhandaras
Lucknow: Bada Mangal , the revered annual festival dedicated to Lord Hanuman , begins on Tuesday. Celebrated during the Jyeshtha month of Hindu calendar, it is falling on five Tuesdays this year — May 13, May 20, May 27, June 3 and June preparations were underway at the Hanuman temples on the eve of first Bada Mangal, which is also a symbol of Lucknow's famous Ganga-Jamuni devotees queuing up at Hanuman temples throughout the day, the other highlight of the festival are bhandaras which are organised across the city and see the participation of all New Hanumanji temple in Aliganj, aarti will be performed at 6am on Tuesday, followed by Bal Bhog at 8am. Pampa Sarovar (pond) situated in the temple premises has been renovated, said temple secretary Rajesh Gulachin temple in Aliganj, morning aarti will be performed at 6:30am and ratri aarti at 9:30pm. Coolers and fans have been installed on the temple premises for the convenience of devotees, said office bearer Rakesh Hanuman Setu temple too, coolers have been installed for devotees. The temple has been decorated with flowers and LED lights. It will remain open for 24 hours. Mangla (morning aarti) will be performed at 6am and ratri aarti at 8pm, said acharya of the temple Chandrakant Lete Hue Hanumanji Temple, a bhog of 11kg laddoos will be offered to the deity. Mangla aarti will be done at 9:30am. Havan will take place from 7:30pm, followed by Mahaarati at 8:30pm, said temple's Pramukh Sevadas Vivek Tangdi.A bhandara will be organised daily from 5pm to 7pm at Khatu Shyam Temple, said temple's media coordinator Anurag Sahu.A Nawabi era tarditionLegend says that Bada Mangal is being held since the Nawabi era. The story goes that Janab-e-Alia, the wife of Nawab Shuja-ud-Daulah, was born a devout Hindu. She prayed for a child at the old Hanuman temple. When her prayers were answered, in gratitude, she renovated the old temple and built a new one. This act of devotion is said to have initiated the tradition of Bada Mangal celebrations. Another version of the tale links the festival to Nawab Saadat Ali Khan's era, when his son, Mohammad Ali Shah, was seriously ill. After all medical remedies failed, blessings were sought from Lord Hanuman at the Aliganj temple, leading to the prince's recovery. As a thanksgivinggesture, the Nawab is said to have started the tradition of celebrating Bada Mangal.

Lyricist and screenwriter Manoj Muntashir Shukla released a powerful video on X (formerly Twitter) in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22 that claimed 26 lives. Condemning the incident, he appealed directly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a strong retaliatory response, saying the time for symbolic reactions was over. 'Muslim ho? Accha… kalma padkar sunao. Nahi aata hai? Hindu ho. Badhai ho ki yeh goliyan aapke kisi apne ko nahi lagi.' 'Are you Muslim? Okay… then recite the Kalma. Can't do it? So you're Hindu. Congratulations that these bullets didn't hit one of your own.' 'Pahalgam mein aapka koi beta ya bhai nahi mara gaya. Lekin kitne din bachoge?' 'No one you know died in Pahalgam. But how long will you stay safe?' Muntashir warned that this violence isn't confined to Kashmir. 'Kashmir nahi jaoge to Murshidabad mein mare jaoge, Kolkata mein mare jaoge, Godhra, Delhi, aur Muzaffarnagar mein mare jaoge.' 'If not Kashmir, you'll be killed in Murshidabad, Kolkata, Godhra, Delhi, or Muzaffarnagar.' He questioned the public's silence and challenged their passivity. Indian SC upholds use of Urdu on municipal signboard, cites cultural heritage

A bench comprising Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and K Vinod Chandran ruled that the inclusion of Urdu signage does not violate any law, including the Maharashtra Local Authorities (Official Languages) Act, 2022. The court emphasized that language is a medium of communication, not division, and reaffirmed the cultural significance of Urdu in India. 'Language is culture,' Justice Dhulia stated in the verdict, highlighting Urdu as a symbol of India's Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb (composite culture). The court noted that misconceptions and biases against Urdu are unfounded, stressing that Urdu, like Hindi and Marathi, is an Indo-Aryan language that evolved in India. The court also rejected the notion that Urdu is religiously exclusive, stating, 'Language belongs to a community, not a religion.' It underscored that Urdu continues to influence legal terminology and daily communication, citing terms like adalat, halafnama, and vakalatnama as examples. Citing Census data, the court noted that India is home to over 122 major languages and 270 mother tongues, with Urdu ranking sixth among the most spoken scheduled languages.
