A man was arrested after Guelph Police caught him driving a stolen car connected to a business break-and-enter Saturday.
Police said an officer was patrolling on Waverley Drive at around 11:20 p.m., when he saw an Audi A5 that didn't have any license plates. The driver provided proof of ownership and identified himself, verbally to the officer, with the same name that was on the document.
Police then determined the driver was not who he said he was.
When officers called the real owner of the vehicle, he said he dropped his car off at a garage for servicing and confirmed no one should be driving it. Police also contacted the owners of the garage, who confirmed someone had broken into their office and stole a laptop and multiple car keys. The officer said they saw these items inside the Audi.
Police arrested and charged a 36-year-old Guelph man with break-and-enter, possessing stolen property over $5,000 and breach of probation.
