Steeped in tradition: Garces Memorial's graduation celebrates 123 seniors
Garces Memorial High School graduated 123 students Tuesday night at Sam Tobias Field, a place filled with memories for seniors and their families.
And as is tradition, Garces kicked off the local high school graduation season.
Garces leaders noted that all students are taking next steps in their journey, with 119 going off to college, a couple of them attending a technical school, three entering military service and one becoming an electrician and beginning his electrical apprenticeship.
Awards were bestowed, from the top seniors as voted on by the senior class, to the Bishop's Awards recognizing a male and a female graduate who best represent the characteristics for which the school stands and manifest Christ's teachings. Other honors given were the Jim Burke Leadership Award, Garces Award, Salutatorian Award and Valedictorian Award.
Teachers of the Year Ashleigh Rossi and Suzie Salazar led the class during the Academic Procession, another tradition.
