Behavioral therapist accused of molesting autistic child during in-home session

A behavioral therapist has been charged with sexually assaulting an autistic boy during an in-home therapy session in Garden Grove last year, and authorities are urging anyone with additional information or possible victims to come forward. Salvador Armando Arriaga, 32, was arrested and charged with one felony count of committing a lewd act on a child under 14, along with an enhancement alleging he entered the child's home with the intent to commit the crime. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years to life in prison, the Orange County District Attorney's Office said. At the time of the alleged abuse, Arriaga was working for Behavioral Health Works, an Anaheim-based company that provides behavioral therapy services to children with autism and other developmental disabilities. On Sept. 18, 2024, he was conducting a session in the boy's home, a client whose home he'd visited previously. Prosecutors allege the session took place in the child's bedroom while the boy's father remained in the living room caring for another child. When the father noticed the room had gone quiet, he entered and found no one in sight. After opening the closet door, he allegedly found his son with his pants down and Arriaga kneeling 'with his head near his son's lap.' The father confronted Arriaga, who tried to flee the scene through a window before running out the door. The victim's father called the Garden Grove Police Department who arrived on scene shortly after. While officers were at the home, Arriaga returned and was wearing another shirt. He was detained on suspicion of lewd acts on a child, officials said. Over the following months, investigators continued gathering evidence, including DNA, which led to Arriaga being formally charged and arrested on a warrant. He remains in custody with bail set at $1 million. The investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information about Arriaga or other potential victims is urged to contact Garden Grove Police Detective Sindy Orozco by email, or by calling 714-741-5872. Costa Mesa motorcyclist critically injured in collision with truck in Garden Grove

A 20-year-old Costa Mesa man remained in critical condition Monday, after his motorcycle was struck Friday afternoon by a pickup truck in Garden Grove, according to police. The motorcyclist, whose name has not been released to the public, was reportedly traveling south on the 12500 block of Magnolia Street shortly after 1 p.m. when he was struck by a 2023 Chevy Silverado traveling north, according to Sgt. Nick Jensen of the Garden Grove Police Department. The truck was attempting to turn left onto Lampson Avenue when it collided with the motorcycle — a 2018 Aprilia RSV4, Jensen reported Monday. Someone in the area called police, who arrived on scene to find the motorcyclist unresponsive. Garden Grove police and firefighters with the Orange County Fire Authority started administering life-saving medical care on the Costa Mesa man, who was transported to a nearby trauma center with critical head and facial injuries, the police spokesman reported. The driver of the Silverado, described only as a 46-year-old resident of Garden Grove, remained on scene and cooperated with police, as members of the department's neighborhood traffic unit assumed the investigation. That individual received no injuries, Jensen said. Southbound lanes on Magnolia, along with eastbound and westbound lanes of Lampson were closed to vehicle traffic for a few hours to accommodate the investigation, according to police. It does not appear that impairment played a role in the collision, and Jensen confirmed Monday that no charges have been filed against the pickup's driver. The motorcyclist continues to be hospitalized and was still listed in critical condition three days after the incident. The cause of the collision is still under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has any additional information or video footage of the collision is encouraged to contact Garden Grove Police Department Investigator John Yergler at (714) 741-5772 or Johny@

Burglary suspect, 28, flees Southern California police in stolen Land Rover

A commercial burglary suspect in Orange County who stole a high-end SUV and led police in a pursuit that ended with a standoff Sunday afternoon is in custody, authorities announced. In a news release, officials at the Garden Grove Police Department said that just before 2 p.m., officers spotted a black Land Rover Sport near Harbor and Garden Grove boulevards. The vehicle had been reported stolen earlier in the morning, police said. Authorities identified the suspect as 28-year-old Santa Ana resident Jonathan McLaurin and said he immediately fled when police attempted to pull him over. During the multi-city chase, the 28-year-old reportedly rammed two separate police cruisers in an attempt to get away before finally coming to a stop on the 91 Freeway east of Imperial Highway. Pringles, secret code, L.A. deputy used to smuggle heroin into lockup: report 'A police armored vehicle was used to prevent the suspect from fleeing again and several attempts were made to have the suspect exit the vehicle on his own,' the release noted. Officers then deployed a police K9 and were able to take McLaurin into custody. 'He was transported to a local hospital and will be booked into Orange County Jail after receiving medical treatment,' police said. The extent and nature of the 28-year-old's injuries were not immediately available. No further details were provided. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
