Arrest warrant issued for former Kansas sheriff's deputy
CHEROKEE COUNTY, Kan. — An arrest warrant was issued for a former southeast Kansas deputy after his alleged involvement with a juvenile from Massachusetts.
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office was contacted by the Fall River, Massachusetts Police Department late last month regarding a case involving a deputy's relationship with a local juvenile. The police department requested the office's assistance in developing the investigation.
Detectives back in Cherokee County called on the Kansas Bureau of Investigation to help with the case as well.

After the three agencies completed their investigation, the deputy, Garrett Gayoso, 24, of Baxter Springs, was placed on administrative leave. He later resigned from the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.
On May 9, an arrest warrant was issued for Gayoso by the Bristol County Massachusetts District Attorney's Office a charge of obscene material. Days later, when efforts were made in southeast Kansas to arrest and extradite Gayoso, he was not located.
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said they were contacted by Gayoso's attorney, who said plans were made for his client to surrender himself to authorities in Massachusetts.
