Finalists revealed for next Dothan City superintendent
DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — The final candidates for Dothan City School's next superintendent have been announced.
The five candidates and their backgrounds were revealed during a special called Dothan City Board of Education Meeting on Thursday afternoon.
The five candidates are:
Dr. Donnie Chambers: Principal within Houston County Schools. Worked for DCS for 19 years.
Dr. Garrick Askew: Current Assistant Superintendent of Clark County Schools in Athens, Georgia.
Dr. Veronica Bayles: Educator from Tuscambia County
Dr. Charles Corbitt: Educator from DCS, who served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and principal
Dr. Kari McGann: Superintendent in Flemington-Raritan Regional School District in New Jersey
BOE members said that the final five were selected from a pool of approximately 42 applicants, 31 of whom completed the application process.
Eighteen of the applicants were from Alabama, and the board received applications from educators in Georgia, New Jersey, Florida, Illinois, Virginia, Texas, and Pennsylvania.
The search for a new superintendent began earlier this year after Dr. Dennis Coe announced that he would be stepping down in June, once his contract expired.
