£1.3m cannabis haul recovered after police raid building in Greenock

Five men aged between 17 and 50 have since appeared in court in connection. Police have recovered a drugs haul worth around £1.3 million following a raid on an address in Greenock last week. Officers searched a property under warrant on Clarence Street in the Inverclyde town on Thursday, June 5 following a report suspecting cannabis was being grown on the premises. An extensive cannabis cultivation was discovered inside, which was found to have an estimated street value of £1,306,200. Five men, aged 17, 23, 26, 38 and 50, were later arrested and charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act, and appeared at Greenock Sheriff Court on Friday, June 6. A heavy police presence was seen in the area at the time of the raid, with multiple police vehicles parked along the street. Police cars appeared to be blocking the road at each end. Uniformed officers were also seen standing guard and talking to locals outside. Sergeant Gary Arthur said: 'This is a significant recovery and is an example of our efforts to disrupt the trade in illegal drugs in Scotland. 'It also underlines our commitment to the Serious Organised Crime Taskforce and the country's Serious Organised Crime Strategy. 'We would continue to urge anyone with information or concerns about drugs and firearms activity in their area to contact Police Scotland on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.'
