No injuries reported after an overnight house fire in Gaston County
GASTON COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Officials are investigating after a fire broke out at a home in Gaston County. Crews responded to reports of a house fire in the 1000 block of St. Marks Church Road in Crouse at 3:18 a.m. The rear of the structure had already collapsed by the time crews arrived. The fire was brought under control by 4:14 a.m. Thankfully, there were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. The property damage is estimated at $100,000. McAdenville mayor passes away at the age of 80, town says
MCADENVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The town of McAdenville announced the passing of its mayor, Jim Robinette. Robinette served as mayor since being appointed in March 2016. He was subsequently elected in 2019 and re-elected in 2023. He began his career in public service at a young age while serving in the United States Army. After he served on either the town's planning board or city council for nearly 20 years. 'Mayor Robinette was dedicated to McAdenville and the wellbeing of its residents. Having lived in the town for over 45 years, he knew its history and traditions,' Mayor Pro-Tem Reid Washam said. 'More than that, he respected that history and tradition. He was respected by the community as evidenced by his appointment, election and reelections.' Robinette achieved many accomplishments for the town during his time as mayor including the purchase and repurposing of a historic property into the McAdenville's Town Hall facility, the construction of the McAdenville Greenway Park on the South Fork River and the completion of the South Fork Sewer Project, which opened the door to a future utility regionalization with the City of Gastonia. Robinette leaves behind his wife, Betty, and his daughter, Christy. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 21 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park. A funeral service will follow at 12 p.m. in the chapel of Carothers Funeral Home. The interment will take place at 1 p.m. at Gaston Memorial Park. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. His funeral will take place on Wednesday at noon at the chapel of Carothers Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest at 1 p.m. at Gaston Memorial Park. Two people were killed in a fire Sunday in Gaston County
A man and woman died Sunday in a house fire in northwestern Gaston County. Investigators from the Gaston County Office of Emergency Management and Fire Services have ruled the fire accidental. Emergency responders arrived at the home in the 4000 block of Old Lincolnton Road at 10:11 a.m. Sunday. The front and left side of the home were fully engulfed when units arrived. A 78-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were located dead inside the home. Investigators found that the fire originated on the front porch of the home and was caused by a heating lamp. Crouse Fire Department was the lead agency on the fire with assistance from Tryonota Fire, Agriculture Center Volunteer Fire, Waco Community Volunteer Fire, Gaston County Police, North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal, Hugh's Pond Volunteer Fire, Dallas Fire, Cherryville Fire, Gaston County Emergency Medical Services (GEMS), Bessemer City Fire, North Gaston Fire, South Fork Fire.
