Princess Theodora married Mathew Kumar in Athens in 2024 after years of delays due to Covid-19 and her father's death. Their wedding drew widespread attention online
Princess Theodora of Greece and Denmark, daughter of the late King Constantine II and Queen Anne-Marie, was finally wed to American lawyer Mathew Kumar in September 2024, following a series of delays. The couple married nearly eight years after they first met and five years following their haldi ceremony.
The couple's wedding, long anticipated by royal watchers, drew significant attention, with images from the ceremony quickly going viral on social media.
Born in London on June 9, 1983, Princess Theodora is the fourth of five children of King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie. Her siblings include Princess Alexia, Crown Prince Pavlos, Prince Nikolaos, and Prince Philippos. She was educated at Woldingham School in Surrey and later spent a gap year at St Philip's College in Alice Springs, Australia.
Princess Theodora went on to earn a degree in Theatre Arts from Brown University in the United States, before pursuing postgraduate studies at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design.
Following her studies, the princess embarked on an acting career, appearing in a variety of productions, most notably in the American soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful. Her acting credits also include Gates of Hades, Respect Greece, The Great Awakening, Blind Follow, June, The Assistant, and Little Boy.
When Princess Theodora Met Mathew Kumar
In 2019, they travelled to Dehradun in Uttarakhand, to celebrate their traditional haldi ceremony, reflecting Mathew Kumar's Indian heritage.
The Grand Royal Wedding
However, their wedding was postponed twice — first due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and again in 2023 following the death of Princess Theodora's father, King Constantine. The couple were finally married in a grand ceremony held at the Athens Metropolitan Cathedral in 2024.
According to Hello! Magazine, ahead of their nuptials, the couple hosted an intimate dinner for close friends and family at the Byzantine and Christian Museum in Athens. Princess Theodora, now 41, looked radiant on her wedding day, while her husband Mathew Kumar cut a striking figure.
Their celebration was attended by numerous distinguished guests, including members of various European royal families, such as the Crown Prince of Serbia and marked the joyful conclusion to a long-awaited union.
