Qassam Brigades announce successful ambush in northern Gaza

In a statement released on Saturday, the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, claimed responsibility for a successful ambush against 'Israeli' forces in northern Gaza. The operation, dubbed "Sword Breaker," took place in the eastern part of Beit Hanoun, a region heavily affected by the ongoing aggression. The operation's name is in response to the name of the 'Israeli' aggression against Gaza which started in 2023 called "Swords of Iron." The brigades reported targeting a military jeep belonging to the Gaza Division's Combat Intelligence Battalion using a precise anti-tank missile. The missile strike reportedly caused significant casualties, although the exact number of 'Israeli' soldiers affected has not been independently verified. As 'Israeli' reinforcements rushed to the scene , they were ambushed once again by a deadly "TV-3" anti-personnel explosive device, designed to inflict maximum damage on personnel. The device resulted in further casualties, including both deaths and injuries, highlighting the brutal nature of the ongoing conflict in the region. In addition to the anti-tank missile and explosive device attacks, the Al-Qassam Brigades launched a second strike, targeting a newly established 'Israeli' military position with four RPG rockets and multiple mortar shells. The group claimed these attacks inflicted substantial damage on the enemy's newly fortified position.

Enemy media reveals army's failure to repel Qassam fighters' invasion of Sderot

Occupied Al-Quds - Saba: Zionist enemy media reported, citing an Israeli army investigation published Wednesday, that 1,000 soldiers and police officers failed to repel the attack by elite Hamas fighters on the city of Sderot on October 7. The newspaper "Zaman Yisrael" reported that the city, the largest in the Gaza Strip, with a population of 38,000, was attacked by 40 elite fighters, who killed 53 Israelis in the city, including 37 civilians, 11 police officers, and two soldiers. Unlike other areas in the Gaza Strip, there were no kidnappings in the city because the majority of the attacking force was killed. Thirty-nine of the 40 militants were killed, and only one was captured, in addition to a civilian from the Gaza Strip who arrived in the city after the elite forces entered. The newspaper reported that investigations proved the army and security forces failed to repel the attack on the city in its first hours, despite the presence of the largest number of army and police personnel in the city, numbering approximately 1,000. Meanwhile, the command and control center of the Gaza Division was paralyzed at the height of the attack, leaving the soldiers surrounding the city unaware of what was happening inside, as the militants infiltrated through a breach in the fence near the memorial. Katz Deepens Feud with New IOF Chief, Says He Can Give Him Orders Any way He Wants to

Zionist Defense Minister Israel Katz doubles down after IOF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir last night told him, in a public statement, that he doesn't receive instructions through the media. Katz said he can give orders to Zamir 'in any way he deems appropriate' and the chief of staff's response was 'unnecessary and inappropriate.' The row began after Brig. Gen. (res.) Oren Solomon, an officer who was responsible for the Gaza Division's probe into its failures related to Hamas's October 7, 2023, onslaught, was booted from reserve duty and put under investigation by the Military Police for operational security violations. Katz then, in statement, last night said he wanted to meet with Solomon, and called on Zamir to examine the conduct of the Military Advocate General. Zamir responded by saying that he doesn't receive instructions via the media, and that he backs the investigation, which is unrelated to Solomon's October 7 probe. 'The instruction to the chief of staff to examine the circumstances that led to the investigation and the allegations presented in the letter that Brig. Gen. Solomon wrote to the prime minister and the defense minister regarding the IOF's behavior toward him in light of the critical investigation he conducted, was given directly before the announcement was issued to the media due to the public aspect, and this without any intention of harming the investigation itself, which is being conducted by the Military Advocate General,' Katz said this morning. Katz added, in his public statement to the media, that 'the media discourse surrounding the issue must now be stopped, which will be handled in other ways later.'

Israeli army concludes Hamas defeated it on 7 October

An internal Israeli army investigation has concluded that Hamas tricked Israel for years and swiftly overran and defeated an entire Israeli military division on 7 October 2023. Released on Thursday, the probe found that the Israeli military "failed" to protect Israeli civilians and was not prepared for the Hamas-led attack, during which around 1,200 people were killed and 251 taken as captives. The command-and-control of the so-called "Gaza Division" of Israel's Southern Command collapsed within hours of the attack, launched by the Palestinian movement's armed wing at 6.29am. Top Israeli officers, including the division's Southern Brigade commander Asaf Hamami and many company and platoon commanders, were killed by Hamas fighters by 7 AM. According to reports citing Israeli security sources, only 767 soldiers were stationed at the boundary with Gaza on the day. Around 5,000 Hamas fighters entered the area by land, air and sea in different waves of the attack. Israel's military had missed obvious signs of the impending attack and preparations around it, ignoring some reports and warnings from even the day before. Furthermore, because no immediate threat was assumed, the army had stuck to usual protocols on deployment, with only drones dispatched for surveillance missions after intelligence received overnight on 6 October. How 7 October forever destroyed the myth of Israeli military invincibility Read More » According to the reports, the Israeli military's Gaza Division, which is stationed along the 59km barrier to Gaza, was defeated for around 10 hours. 'October 7 was a complete failure, the IDF (Israeli army) failed in fulfilling its mission to protect Israeli civilians,' a senior Israeli army official told reporters following the publication of the probe. 'Too many civilians died that day asking themselves in their hearts or out loud, where was the IDF?' Within the first six hours of the offensive, Hamas's Qassam Brigades gained operational control over Israeli communities nearby the besieged enclave, alongside Israeli military posts, and the main paths in the western Negev area. Its fighters were attacking numerous areas simultaneously, which the investigations estimate at 114 locations, as the Israeli army scrambled to regain control with minimal forces and capabilities. Less than 10 minutes after fighters led by the Qassam Brigades crossed into Israel, the Gaza Division declared Parash Peleshet ("hostile intrusion" in Hebrew), a code that refers to the highest degree of infiltration. The investigation found that the ground attack had three main influx of Hamas fighters, while the invasion via sea using seven speedboats and air using paragliders was carried out by just 38 and eight Palestinian fighters respectively. Perception of Hamas The Israeli military's internal investigations found too that Israel's perception of Hamas underestimated the Palestinian group's military capabilities, focusing instead on what was perceived to be the bigger threat coming from Iran and Lebanon's Hezbollah. The Israeli army considered the attack as a form of "deception" by the Palestinian group, and a wide-scale attack was not seen as realistic or feasible. The inquiry into the events of that day has sparked reactions across the political spectrum in Israel. Opposition leader Yair Lapid criticised Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government for "whitewashing" its own responsibility for the invasion. War on Gaza: How 7 October forever destroyed the myth of Israeli military invincibility Read More » "The army is demonstrating courage and values and investigating itself without any attempt to whitewash or cover up its responsibility. It is time for the failed bunch of cowards called the 'Israeli government' to do the same. Instead of running away from responsibility all day, they should learn from the army and establish a state commission of inquiry," he said in a post on X. Meanwhile, the army's outgoing chief of staff, Herzi Halevi, said he took "responsibility" for the attacks. "I embrace my responsibility. It is mine. I was the commander of the army on 7 October and I have my responsibility and I have all of your responsibility. I see that as mine too. And I see that in every command of mine that went wrong, there is also a part of me," he said. In late April 2024, Haaretz released a report, collecting dozens of testimonies, geolocated videos and built maps, investigating the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel, showcasing the failure of Israeli security and assistance to civilians. According to the report, residents of Israeli communities near Gaza were left without rescue for hours, losing faith in their government. Some even appealed to the media for help. "All of Israel's intelligence and operational systems collapsed," the report said. "All of its political conceptions were proven false. In the space of 24 hours, Israelis lost faith that their state could protect them."

Israel's military lays out its Oct. 7 failures

Advertisement Briefing reporters the day before publishing some of their initial findings, Israeli military officials, who could not be named under army rules, suggested that the failure stemmed from flawed assumptions about Hamas's capabilities and intentions, as well as what some military officials have called an 'addiction' to precise intelligence, which was lacking. The mistaken view of Hamas had gone largely unchallenged within Israeli intelligence circles and senior command, and it led to a series of failures. Those included a chaotic military response in the first hours of the assault after troops deployed along the border were swiftly overwhelmed and the military's Southern Command and Gaza Division was overrun. The findings of military and intelligence failures largely match detailed investigations by local and international news media. But the military is now presenting its own version of the events for the sake of accountability, Israeli military officials said. The military's internal inquiries were not aimed at finding individual responsibility, officials said. That may come later, they said, under Israel's incoming military chief of staff, Eyal Zamir. They said the main goal was to learn lessons from the debacle. This article originally appeared in
