Russia Abandons Idea of Turkish Backdoor to Europe's Gas Market
Russia's Gazprom PJSC has quietly shelved plans to develop a new gas distribution hub in Turkey, closing the door on a potential opportunity to regain a foothold in European markets lost since the invasion of Ukraine. With the Nord Stream pipelines to Germany out of action and gas transit through Ukraine set to expire in 2024, Gazprom had been studying Turkey — already connected to two major Russian pipelines — as a way back into Europe, which used to be its largest export market. But after months of considering options, the company concluded it wasn't viable and has largely halted the work, said people familiar with the matter.

EU Set to Propose Banning Russian Gas Imports by End of 2027
The European Union is set to propose measures to ban Russian gas imports by the end of 2027, as the bloc pushes to sever ties with the country that was once its biggest energy supplier. Despite efforts to cut purchases following Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, cheap Russian gas imports are proving hard to eliminate at a time when the 27-nation bloc is struggling to lower energy prices. The biggest headache for Europe is a jump in Russian liquefied natural gas supplies, which surged to a record after Gazprom PJSC significantly curbed pipeline shipments.

Russian and European Officials See US Interest in Gazprom Ties
Russian and European officials say the US is exploring ways to work with energy giant Gazprom PJSC on global projects, a step toward forging closer ties with the Kremlin while trying to broker a peace deal on Ukraine. European assessments suggest there have been preliminary contacts between US and Russian representatives on the issue, but it's not clear who's leading the conversations or whether the Trump administration is directly involved, according to people familiar with the matter. The White House declined to comment.
