Geek Girl Authority Crush of the Week: CORA PRESCOTT

Welcome to this week's installment of Geek Girl Authority Crush of the Week, wherein we spotlight strong women and non-binary folks who inspire us. These characters are prime examples of empowerment and how crucial it is for youth to have said examples to follow. DISCLAIMER: The following contains spoilers for Spirit Riding Free , particularly Cora Prescott's arc. Cora Prescott Fast Facts While Lucky (Amber Frank), Pru (Sydney Park) and Abigail (Bailey Gambertoglio) are the main characters on Spirit Riding Free , aunt Cora Prescott (Kari Wahlgren) doesn't stay far behind with her very unique perspective. She was definitely not made for the Frontier, but was willing to leave the city behind and do her best to help her brother and niece. Even though there are times when she feels her work is worthless because Lucky and Jim (Nolan North) will always be wild, the truth is that they wouldn't be able to do their lives without her. That is a fact because they try and fail. After Papa Prescott (Victor Garber) mentions how disappointed he is in Cora for not doing better with Lucky, Cora decides to move out and live in the town's inn. She is ready to leave Miradero as well, but Lucky reminds her of all the amazing things she has done since moving there. Even though Cora believes she has no purpose in this town, her niece reminds her of all the good she has brought to the people of Miradero, including herself. RELATED: Geek Girl Authority Crush of the Week: Kate Flores While it is hard for Cora at first, she ends up adjusting to life in the Frontier. She goes from spending her days at home, cooking for Lucky and Jim, to making friends, joining the Miradero community and finding her passion. Her character growth is one of the best on the show, considering she went from believing Lucky needed to be a lady and cousin Julian (Lucas Grabeel) was better to truly seeing Lucky's worth in how she is as a person, regardless of whether her behavior is lady-like or not. It is obvious that she has always been Lucky's biggest supporter. She cheers for her when she dresses as a man to race and encourages Jim to give her the space she needs when she runs away to the circus. Cora Prescott is the kind of aunt every child deserves. The Real Deal Cora Prescott's journey is an enchanting one. It is magical to see her go from a woman who simply existed to serve her brother and niece to a woman who forges a life of her own. The moment she decides to move out and live at the inn, she is choosing to put herself first for once in her life. While it hurts Lucky to accept this change, it benefits both of them as they learn to exist without being attached at the hip. RELATED: This Original Naruto Scene Still Holds Up 20 Years Later Throughout the seasons, Cora finds her true passion: fashion design. She realizes she can do this by sewing Kate's (Tiya Sircar) wedding dress. When her future sister-in-law doesn't find a dress she likes, Cora takes it upon herself to make her dreams a reality. After that, she starts a career day at the school and by watching Lucky try everything she is passionate about, Cora decides to go after her own dream. Why She Matters Cora Prescott is the image of resilience and changing your destiny. She was raised to either be someone's wife or her brother's helper after his wife's death, but she changes that when she realizes her own worth. By taking a step from the men in her life (her brother and father), she sees what she is capable of and doesn't back down. It probably helps to have a fearless niece inspiring her.
