Iraq reviews measures to increase oil, gas production

Baghdad ( – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, chaired a meeting on Sunday with representatives of foreign oil firms operating in Iraq to review measures to maintain and raise oil and gas production rates. The Iraqi Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul-Ghani, and officials from Iraq's Federal Board of Supreme Audit, the General Commission for Taxes, and the Employment Department of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs attended the meeting, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). The meeting addressed important issues, including approaches to stop gas flaring, the development of Iraq's oil industry, work permits, and social security. In order to maintain and raise production rates, Al-Sudani emphasized the necessity of removing barriers to project implementation and reaffirmed that the government prioritizes and views the relationship with these businesses as strategic. By adopting innovative technologies, boosting facility performance, and putting a stop to gas flaring, Al-Sudani reaffirmed the government's commitment to increasing production and reservoir operational effectiveness. Al-Sudani stressed the significance of optimizing the use of associated gas for the production of electricity and to sustain key industries such as steel, fertilizer, and petrochemicals. The Iraqi prime minister ordered a reevaluation of the licensing rounds 15 years after they were first introduced in light of advances in the oil and gas industry. Al-Sudani also emphasized the government's efforts towards developing infrastructure, strengthening security at facilities, and improving the business climate for oil businesses. Additionally, the prime minister indicated that the government seeks to increase cooperation with oil firms to guarantee the best possible use of Iraq's oil and gas resources in a way that advances the prosperity of the Iraqi people and achieves development objectives.
