Iraq's Industry Minister tours Babil factories, pushes for automotive & pharma upgrades
Babil ( – Iraq's Minister of Industry and Minerals, Khalid Battal Al-Najm, conducted a field visit to several factories in Babil Governorate on Thursday (May 8, 2025) to assess operational realities and identify challenges. The Minister emphasized support for key sectors like automotive and textiles.
At the General Company for Automotive Industry, Al-Najm reviewed the axial sprinkler plant and discussed expanding Peugeot car production lines, potentially including affordable models like Proton. He acknowledged that some formerly productive plants face issues requiring 'radical solutions.'
A significant directive came during his visit to the Samarra Drug Industries (SDI) medical syringes plant, where the Minister ordered the addition of a new production line for IV solutions and medical syringes, addressing outdated equipment. Challenges in the textile sector due to reliance on imported raw materials were also noted.
Minister Al-Najm highlighted ongoing discussions with Babil's governor for potential investment projects and stressed the Ministry's commitment to integrating with local administrations to overcome obstacles, including the impact of Iraq's water crisis on industry.
