Agnes K. George, Austintown, Ohio
AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Agnes (Jadwega) K. George, 100, passed away Friday evening, Valentine's Day, February 14, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital.
Agnes was born April 5, 1924, on the East Side of Youngstown, the daughter of the late John and Barbara Koleda.

She graduated from East High School and as a teenager during World War II, ran a payroll department at a de-embarkation station in Transfer, Pennsylvania.
After the war, she worked at General Fireproofing, where her father was employed in the press room. There, she met her future husband, Harold 'Snorky' B. George, a veteran of the 104th Timberwolf Division in Europe, who was awarded a Purple Heart for his service.
Agnes and Harold married on September 6, 1947 and shared 64 years together until his death on October 16, 2011.
A survivor in every sense, Agnes overcame ovarian cancer after being diagnosed at age 38. She lived independently in her Austintown home of 70 years, caring for her cat, Chooch, until a fall on May 18, 2024. From June 28, 2024, to Feb. 12, 2025, she was a resident at Addison Assisted Living on Canfield Road, next to St. Christine Church, where she received exceptional care.
She is survived by her loving children, Barbara (Thomas) Buck of Cranberry, Pennsylvania and John H. George of Canfield; three grandchildren, Thomas Buck Jr., David J. (Lisa) Buck and Christine (Brendon) Ziegler; five great-grandchildren, Keegan, Cori, Lauren, Kansas and Andrew and two great-great-grandchildren; she is also lovingly remembered by her nieces, Barbara and Karen.
Agnes was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Koleda; sister, Sophia Szamrey; her nephew, John and niece, Lesley.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Kinnick Funeral Home 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown, where a funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m.
Private interment will take place Friday afternoon, February 21, 2025, at Tod Homestead Cemetery where Agnes will be laid to rest beside her husband.
To further celebrate Agnes' life, a service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church 323 Wick Ave. Youngstown, in early April 2025.
The family welcomes all who knew Agnes to gather, share memories and celebrate her long, independent and well-lived life.
The family extends their gratitude to the dedicated caregivers at Addison, including nurses Melody 'Mel', Amanda and Pam and nursing aides Cary, Celina, Diane, Helen and Nick. Agnes formed a special bond with her Akeso physical therapist, Kaylah and was under the sensitive care for a pressure wound by her Akeso skilled nurse, Mary.
Special thanks also go to the staff at St. Elizabeth's emergency department in Boardman, where Agnes was transported after collapsing on February 12. She was diagnosed with coronavirus, respiratory flu and an M-stress heart attack. The family appreciates the care provided by floor doctors Dr. Arnott and Dr. Simon, nurses Kevin, Addison, Emma, Sarah and Stephanie, aides Patrice and Dawn and pulmonary specialist Dr. Tolson.
Her primary care physician, Dr. Michael Devine III, is also acknowledged for his dedicated care of Agnes and her family over many decades.
