Egypt's Grand Mufti condemns Israel's decision to block entry of aid to Gaza

Grand Mufti of the Republic and Head of the General Secretariat of Fatwa Authorities and Institutions in the World, Dr. Nazir Muhammad Ayyad CAIRO - 3 March 2025: Grand Mufti of the Republic and Head of the General Secretariat of Fatwa Authorities and Institutions in the World, Dr. Nazir Muhammad Ayyad, condemned in the strongest terms the decision issued by the occupying Israeli entity to block the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip and close the crossings used for relief work. Egypt's Grand Mufti also stressed that the Israeli decision represents a "flagrant violation of all international laws and norms," and exacerbates the humanitarian suffering faced by civilians in the Strip. The Grand Mufti of the Republic stresses that depriving innocent people of food, medicine and humanitarian aid is a humanitarian crime that contradicts the basic principles of divine laws and international laws, which require providing aid to civilians, especially in times of crises and conflicts. He added that continuing to impose restrictions on the entry of aid leads to a major humanitarian disaster, and doubles the suffering of women, children and the elderly who live in tragic conditions inside the Strip, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. The Mufti called on the international community and human rights and humanitarian institutions to take urgent and immediate action to pressure the Israeli authorities to cancel this inhumane decision, and to work to ensure the rapid and safe flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza. He further stressed that silence towards these violations is complicity against human values, and that it is the duty of countries and international organizations to play their moral and humanitarian role to protect civilians and ensure that aid reaches them without obstacles. The Mufti of the Republic called on all active forces on the international scene to make the necessary efforts to stop the escalation in the Palestinian territories, and to work to end the suffering of the Palestinian people, noting that all heavenly laws came to establish the values of justice, mercy and coexistence, and not to justify injustice, starvation and siege, stressing that silence towards these crimes only increases their spread, only increases the suffering of the victims, and only increases the betrayal of humanity.
