Nashville police seek Mall at Green Hills robbery victim as homicide suspect

The man Nashville police initially identified as the robbery victim during a scuffle outside the Mall at Green Hills earlier this month is now wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a getaway driver. A homicide arrest warrant has been issued against Genesis Denton, 31, who police say had just exited the mall Feb. 4 when a suspect from a Tesla vehicle approached him and attempted to take Denton's shopping bags. Police believe the suspect appeared to be carrying a gun, wrestled high-end shopping bags from Denton during the scuffle and tried to enter the Tesla as it attempted to pick up the suspect. Police said Denton ran toward the Tesla as it sped away. The shopper appeared to throw an extended magazine from the suspect's pistol at the car, police said, noting that at least one shot was fired around the Tesla during the exchange. Emmanuel Easley, 30, was shot while driving, and the Tesla later crashed into a tree in the median of Interstate 65 northbound near the Berry Hill area, police said. Easley was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he died. A Metro Nashville police spokesperson previously said the passenger of the Tesla ran from the vehicle after the crash and threw a pistol over a guardrail. He was later charged with aggravated robbery and unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon. Reach reporter Craig Shoup by email at cshoup@ and on X @Craig_Shoup.
