After Genesis WD, is Tiger Woods going to play before the Masters?
Tiger Woods was originally in the field at this week's Genesis Invitational, but on Monday he withdrew and in a statement said "I planned to tee it up this week, but I'm just not ready. I did my best to prepare, knowing it's what my Mom would have wanted, but I'm still processing her loss."
Woods hasn't played competitively since last July in the 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon, and now that he has withdrawn from one of his events he always makes an effort to tee it up at, it begs the question of when (and if) he will play before the Masters.
There are a couple options, all of them close to home. Considering Woods' success at Bay Hill, there's a chance he tees it up in the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Or he could the next week in the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass. He has played the Valspar and Cognizant Classic, the two other Florida stops, in the past, though those seem unlikely this year.
It's nothing like competitive golf, but Woods' swing looks healthy in his TGL appearances, and it doesn't seem likely he'd go into the Masters without playing at least once. Perhaps Woods will reveal his schedule plans if he makes an appearance this week at Torrey Pines, but until then, it's a guessing game of when the 15-time major champ will play again.
