Gear up for grilling season: ROC BBQ Supply is open in Henrietta
HENRIETTA, N.Y. (WROC) — At 1225 Jefferson Road in Henrietta, is ROC BBQ Supply, open Tuesdays through Saturdays. It's between the Tops and Millennium Games.
George Lumb is a first-time business owner, fresh off a busy Easter weekend, one of the unofficial starts of grilling & BBQ season.
'Your seasonings, spices, tools, fuels,' he said. 'You can buy everything in this store to go out and grill in the parking lot.'
There are also grills from SNS, Napoleon, and more for sale. Lumb has 250 seasoning blends, 150 sauces, two dozen pellet blends, and over a dozen charcoal blends for sale. There's even a small selection of locally-sourced meat in their freezer.

Outside of the in-store sales, ROC BBQ Supply has an online ordering system for shipping. Lumb posts daily video content on social media, and curates a BBQ support group on Facebook with about 1,000 members.
Lumb started the business a year and a half ago, following stints in retail, video game streaming, digital marketing, and even a fine arts degree in oil painting.

'What I ended up loving the most about BBQ was the fact that it brings people together,' he said. 'When you're done cooking a brisket, you're feeding people, you're making people happy, you're sharing stories, you're getting together and building memories, and to me that's the core of BBQ more than the hobby… It's the experiences you share with other people.
'I'm my own boss here, and building a community around something that I enjoy,' he continued. 'Having like-minded people who are excited to talk about what they have been up to, just makes this an absolute joy.'
Lumb tells me that he's working on getting his spice blends available to more people and stores in the area — though ROC BBQ Supply has a small sattelite store at Triano's Meat Market in Greece — and possibly looking at an expanded space.
