MOUNT STERLING, Ky. (FOX 56) — The 10th Region championship game featured one of the most thrilling contests we've seen all season, and it came down to the final buzzer. Montgomery County senior guard Cayden Reed knocked down a three-pointer as the final horn sounded, giving the Indians a 59-56 win over George Rogers Clark on Wednesday night on his home floor. LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — The North Laurel girls basketball team emerged victorious to open the KHSAA Girls Sweet 16 state tournament in the morning, and George Rogers Clark and Frederick Douglass followed suit. Girls region tournaments underway for KY high school basketball teams The Lady Jaguars represented the 13th Region well with a 51-42 win over Ashland Blazer, the 16th Region champs, in the 11:00 a.m. game at Rupp Arena to open first round action. The GRC Lady Cardinals earned a convincing win over Franklin-Simpson, 64-42 in their return trip to the state tournament, a better start for Robbie Graham's 10th Region champs after losing to Sacred Heart in the first round last year. Frederick Douglass was in an absolute battle with Simon Kenton, but the 11th Region champs got hot in the 2nd half and grabbed a 48-39 win to advance. St. Xavier basketball, 19-0 against Kentucky foes, still unanimous No. 1 in media poll

Undefeated against in-state competition this season, St. Xavier kept the No. 1 spot in this week's Kentucky High School Boys Basketball Media Poll. The Tigers (22-2) beat Ballard 69-60 on Friday to improve to 19-0 against Kentucky competition this season. St. X received all 16 first-place votes in this week's poll. The Tigers are followed in the top five by Great Crossing, Frederick Douglass, Bryan Station and Marshall County. Marshall County (23-1) suffered its first loss of the season Friday, falling to No. 8 Calloway County 65-60. No. 14 Butler and No. 15 Adair County both joined the top 15 this week, replacing Bowling Green and Ballard. The Kentucky High School Boys Basketball Media Poll is conducted by 16 sports journalists — one from each of the state's 16 basketball regions. The poll will be released online each Tuesday morning throughout the regular season. Along with the statewide top 15, voters will provide top-five rankings for their respective regions.
