CONFIRMED: 2029 IIHF World Championship Goes To Slovakia
At its annual congress in Stockholm on Friday, the IIHF awarded the 2029 World Championship to Slovakia – specifically Bratislava and Košice. According to the website of the Slovak Ice Hockey Association, 99 percent of the delegates at the congress approved the bid from Slovakia. Exact figures are not yet known. As far back as February, the 2029 Worlds going to Slovakia was a near certainty as it was the only remaining applicant to host. Previously, there had also been applications from Hungary and Great Britain, which both withdrew, although both countries have expressed interest in hosting at some point in the future. Advertisement An obstacle for both Hungary and Great Britain is that neither country plays in the top division frequently enough for one to be confident that they would qualify for the 2029 World Championship on their own merits. A host country automatically qualifies but the IIHF tries to avoid that situation – the last time it became an issue was 2010, when host Germany played (and finished fourth) despite its 15th-place finish in 2009, which should have relegated the Germans. At this year's Worlds, France was relegated and will play next year in Division I Group A, although France is already qualified for the 2028 World Championship as host. Bratislava and Košice have already co-hosted the IIHF World Championships in 2011 and 2019 at Ondrej Nepala Arena and Steel Arena. Previously, Bratislava also co-hosted the Worlds in 1959 and 1992 as part of Czechoslovakia. With the awarding of the 2029 tournament, the hosts of the next four elite-level World Championships are now known: Advertisement 2026 – Zurich and Fribourg, Switzerland 2027 – Düsseldorf and Mannheim, Germany 2028 – Paris and Lyon, France 2029 – Bratislava and Košice, Slovakia Photo © George Walker IV-Imagn Images Nikolaj Ehlers: Denmark Beating Canada 'One Of The Biggest Things I've Done In My Career' Nikolaj Ehlers: Denmark Beating Canada 'One Of The Biggest Things I've Done In My Career' 'I don't have any words for this,' Nikolaj Ehlers said after the game, almost in disbelief. 'To beat Canada at home and go through is one of the biggest things I've done in my career, so it's amazing.'

Russia Excluded From 2026 Olympic Ice Hockey Tournaments
Numerous international media outlets are reporting that the International Ice Hockey Federation has made the decision to ban Russian teams from competing in the men's and women's ice hockey tournaments at the Olympic Winter Games next February in Milan, Italy. The decision was reportedly made at Friday's annual congress in Stockholm, Sweden. Multiple sources have cited an initial report from Latvian media outlet SportaCentrs. The IIHF has not yet publicly confirmed the news. If confirmed, the groups for the men's tournament, which runs from Feb. 11 to 22, will be: Group A: Canada, Switzerland, Czechia, France Group B: Finland, Sweden, Slovakia, Italy Group C: United States, Germany, Latvia, Denmark The groups for the women's tournament, which runs from Feb. 5 to 19, will be: Group A: Canada, United States, Finland, Czechia, Switzerland Group B: Gemany, Sweden, Japan, Italy, France Latvia, Denmark, Slovakia (and maybe France) qualify for 2026 Olympics Three teams qualified for the men's ice hockey tournament at the 2026 Winter Olympics on Sunday by winning de facto play-in games on the last day of the final qualifying tournament. In both cases, France takes the place of Russia, although the groups would have been different, based on the IIHF World Rankings. France was the highest-ranked second-place team in the final round of qualifying for men and women. Russian teams last competed in an IIHF-sanctioned event at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, where both men's and women's teams were called "Russian Olympic Committee" for sanctioning reasons. Neuberger Berman, PIF collaborate for $6bn investment programme
Neuberger Berman, a global investment manager, and the Public Investment Fund (PIF) have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) to accelerate the growth of Saudi Arabia and Middle Eastern capital markets by working together to support up to $6 billion in investments in Saudi Arabia, and to launch a Riyadh-based multi-asset investment management platform. The MoU was signed by Abdulmajeed Alhagbani, Head of Securities Investments, MENA Investments Division at PIF, and George Walker, Chief Executive Officer of Neuberger Berman. Aligned with supporting PIF's goal to develop Saudi Arabia's asset management industry, the collaboration includes: • Enabling the flow of international investment into Saudi Arabia via Neuberger Berman's established global presence. • Launching a domestic investment platform managing strategies in equities, fixed income, and private markets. Neuberger Berman is currently seeking to obtain the necessary licenses. Walker said: 'We are honoured to partner with PIF, one of the largest and most sophisticated institutional investors. Through our global multi-asset investment platform and our local business expansion, we look forward to contributing to the domestic economy, building local teams, promoting education and training, and aligning our global expertise with the unique needs of the region as laid out by Vision 2030.' PIF is one of the world's most impactful investors, enabling the creation of new sectors and opportunities that help shape the global economy, while driving the economic transformation of Saudi Arabia. This MoU complements a series of PIF initiatives to promote further growth in the Saudi capital market ecosystem and enable a more robust international investment management sector based in Saudi Arabia. In late 2024, Neuberger Berman hired Khalid Albdah as Head of Middle East and New Markets to lead the firm's strategic development across client coverage, operations, and investments in the region.
