NGO demands action against those who continue to slander Sabah govt
Gerakan Kuasa Rakyat Malaysia chairman Zulkarnain Mahdar lodged a police report against those slandering the Sabah government earlier today. (Gerakan Kuasa Rakyat Malaysia pic) KUALA LUMPUR : A Sabah-based NGO is urging the authorities to investigate those who continue to slander chief minister Hajiji Noor's administration over the alleged mining scandal in the Bornean state. Gerakan Kuasa Rakyat Malaysia (G57) chairman Zulkarnain Mahdar said there was a need for police to investigate these parties immediately to prevent Sabahans from being duped by such lies. 'Take appropriate action as these individuals continue to spread lies. 'And these people (who are being accused of spreading lies), can sue me so I can reveal everything in court,' he told reporters after lodging a police report against the purported whistleblower here this morning. Zulkarnain also denied claims by certain quarters that the alleged mining scandal was a 'little 1MDB', in reference to the scandal which has been dubbed the largest kleptocracy ever. 'This is a baseless accusation which gives Malaysians the wrong perception.' Last year, an alleged mining scandal was reported after a series of videos linking several Sabah assemblymen were leaked. In February, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said the initial batch of videos on the alleged scandal could not be relied on by its investigators as they had been heavily edited and, therefore, lacked credibility. MACC had also completed its probe into the purported whistleblower and the former CEO of a company linked to the case, with the investigation papers submitted to the deputy public prosecutor.

GRS-BN seat talks hard after failed coup, says NGO
Sabah BN chairman Bung Moktar Radin failed to overthrow chief minister Hajiji Noor in a coup later dubbed the 'Kinabalu Move'. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : An NGO has warned of potential challenges in seat negotiations between Gabungan Rakyat Sabah and Barisan Nasional following the attempted coup led by Sabah BN chairman Bung Moktar Radin against chief minister Hajiji Noor. Sabah-based Gerakan Kuasa Rakyat Malaysia (G57) also said the state's ruling coalition was being continuously attacked by Umno, the BN lynchpin. 'Compounding matters is that Bung still heads Sabah Umno. Hence, a concrete decision in terms of seat negotiations between GRS and BN will be difficult to achieve,' G57 chairman Zulkarnain Mahdar said in a statement. He said a clash between GRS and BN at the 17th state election would be hard to avoid. However, clashes between the coalitions should be perceived as 'friendly competition' as they are part of the same team at the federal level. He was commenting on the agreement between Pakatan Harapan chairman Anwar Ibrahim and his BN counterpart Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for the coalitions to work together in facing the Sabah state election. Top Sabah PH leaders have described the central leadership decision as a rational move, given the nature of the coalition's relationship at the federal level. Two years ago, Bung failed to overthrow Hajiji in a coup later dubbed the 'Kinabalu Move'. Last month, an analyst told FMT that an electoral pact in Sabah between BN and PH for the impending state election would be tricky, chiefly due to the presence of Bung. James Chin of Tasmania University said the Sabah BN chairman represented the 'biggest problem' for the proposed alliance.
