Brooklyn Nets jersey history No. 14 - Gerald Green (2012)

Brooklyn Nets jersey history No. 14 - Gerald Green (2012) The Brooklyn Nets have 52 jersey numbers worn by over 600 different players over the course of their history since the franchise was founded in 1967 as a charter member of the American Basketball Association (ABA), when the team was known as the "New Jersey Americans". Since then, that league has been absorbed by the NBA with the team that would later become the New York Nets and New Jersey Nets before settling on the name by which they are known today, bringing their rich player and jersey history with them to the league of today. To commemorate the players who played for the Nets over the decades wearing those 52 different jersey numbers, Nets Wire is covering the entire history of the franchise's jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. The 16th of those 52 different numbers is jersey No. 14 which has has had a total of 29 players wear the number in the history of the team. The first of those players wearing No. 14 played in the (then) New Jersey (now, Brooklyn) Nets era, wing alum Gerald Green. After ending his high school career, Green was picked up with the 18th overall selection of the 2005 NBA draft by the Boston Celtics. The Houston, Texas native would play the first two seasons of his pro career with the Celtics. He would also have stints with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, and abroad before he would sign with New Jersey in 2012. His stay with the team would span 31 games of a single season, ending when he signed with the Indiana Pacers in the next offseason. During his time suiting up for the Nets, Green wore only jersey No. 14 and put up 12.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game. All stats and data courtesy of Basketball Reference.

Boston Celtics star makes bold claim after Game 2 Knicks rally

BOSTON — The Celtics entered their second round series against the Knicks as heavy favorites. Shockingly, they've dropped their first two games at home in virtually identical fashion by blowing a pair of 20-point leads in the second half. The defeats put Boston facing a daunting climb to advance in the series, with just 34 teams in NBA history rallying from a 0-2 series deficit (7.3 percent). Only five teams in NBA history have come back after losing their first two games at home in a seven-game series. Advertisement Despite those daunting odds, Kristaps Porzingis sees Boston now turning into underdogs in the series as a good thing for the defending champions. 'In a way, it takes some of the pressure off of us,' Porzingis said. 'Now it's -- I don't know, if you check the odds, maybe the Knicks are the favorites now to win. We were expected to win. For us to be in this hole right now, with our backs against the wall, we have nothing to lose. We gotta go out there, leave it all out on the floor. And again, I think it's a lot of basketball left to be played and we'll see where it goes.' The Celtics were one of the five teams in NBA history to rally from 0-2 deficit at home, beating the Chicago Bulls in six games during the 2017 first round. A Game 2 injury to Rajon Rondo aided Boston's comeback in that series as did a starting lineup adjustment with Gerald Green getting inserted into the fold. Whether a similar adjustment is coming for Boston remains to be seen. However, Porzingis is adamant that the team's best basketball is still ahead of it after a rough start to the series. Advertisement 'We're probably going to look at it and analyze how we could've done a better job,' Porzingis said. 'All throughout the game, we could've probably shot the ball better, did this better then we pull away even more. But they hung around and similar result. It sucks really bad right now. But we got a lot of basketball to be played and let's see where this goes.' The Celtics will have two days off before heading to New York for Game 3 at Madison Square Garden. 'It's definitely a tough situation,' Porzingis said. 'Down 2-0. Again, I've been in this situation on both sides. There's a lot of basketball still to be played. And the momentum can change. Nobody feels sorry for us. We have to go out there and take it each game.' More Celtics content Read the original article on MassLive.

Boston receives one of eight new location-based BIG3 basketball franchises

Ice Cube said he has long been impressed by the support the league has received in Boston. Last August, the BIG3 held its championship at TD Garden in front of an estimated 10,000 fans. Former Celtic Gerald Green led Bivouac to the title and was named MVP. Bivouac's Payton was named Coach of the Year. Advertisement 'I'm extremely happy,' Ice Cube said. 'You want to go where people appreciate and understand the game. The BIG3 is its own sport. It's different from five on five. You want to go where the fans understand the nuances. If you know anything about basketball, then you know you want to have a team in Boston.' Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up The BIG3 plays under a unique set of rules. The first team to reach 50 points wins. There are three designated circles on the floor located 30 feet from the rim for 4-point shots. The shot clock is 14 seconds instead of 24. The league uses a single free throw worth the amount of points of the shot attempt. For example, a player who is fouled on a 3-point attempt takes a single 'free throw' from the top of the key and a make would be worth 3. The season will begin June 14. The other franchises will be located in Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, the DMV (Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia metro area), Houston, Los Angeles, and Miami. The schedule is expected to be released next week. 'This is a landmark moment in our league,' Ice Cube said. 'These cities have shown up for us year after year and we are honored to represent and reward those fans with a new franchise of their own. The basketball energy in these cities is unmatched, and we've seen firsthand the power of their fan bases.' Advertisement BIG3 co-CEO Jeff Kwatinetz said the league is putting its previous team names and logos on hiatus while it moves forward with new teams. 'While throughout its history the BIG3 has generated millions of fans for the league, we found it challenging to create fans for specific teams that were not aligned with cities,' he said. 'We've found a way to overcome that challenge for Season 8, and are therefore debuting all new teams.' BIG3 commissioner Clyde Drexler, a Basketball Hall of Famer, believes the switch to location-based teams will make the league even more competitive. 'The league has always attracted players that want to do more — to play harder, to get more involved with their communities, and to get closer to the fans that have supported them throughout their entire careers,' he said. 'Our players and coaches have such deep ties to a number of these cities and getting an opportunity to deepen those connections even further by basing their team in that city is a task they hold in high esteem.' Ice Cube is optimistic that rooting the teams in cities will help the league grow. He said the league hopes to add four more markets in 2026. 'It's a bigger fan base,' he said. 'We spent seven years showing as much of this game to as many fans as we could get to. Planting our flag makes sense. It's our path to grow.' Khari Thompson can be reached at
