Udupi: John Carvalho, newly appointed bishop of the Ajmer Diocese in Rajasthan, celebrated a Thanksgiving Mass at his native parish, St Philip Neri Religious Centre in Basrur, Kundapur taluk on Tuesday. The Thanksgiving Mass was attended by a number of distinguished figures, including the bishop of the Udupi Diocese, Gerald Isaac Lobo; bishop of Bellary Diocese, Henry D'Souza; retired bishop of the Jaipur Diocese, Oswald J Lewis and the bishop of the Karwar Diocese, Domingo Dias. Following the mass, a fellowship program was held in honour of John Carvalho. The event was organised on behalf of the Basrur St Philip Neri Church and the teaching staff of Nivedita School, where bishop Carvalho completed his secondary education. During the fellowship, Gerald Isaac Lobo emphasised that the role of a religious leader is not without its burdens, representing a profound responsibility entrusted by God. A bishop must carry the holy cross and guide the faithful under his care. He further added that it was a source of immense pride for the community that someone from the small village of Basrur has become the bishop of the Ajmer Diocese. In his address, the newly appointed Carvalho expressed his sincere gratitude and acknowledged all those who contributed to the success of the event.

Udupi: Following the directive of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI), the Catholic community of Udupi Diocese offered special prayers on Sunday for the safety and success of the Indian armed forces partaking in Operation Sindoor . During the Sunday Mass, priests in every church offered special prayers through the Holy Eucharist and Adoration for the soldiers' safety and protection. Diocese Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo led a special prayer at St Joseph's Church in Belman, Karkala the congregation, Bishop Lobo highlighted the significance of the feast of Jesus, the Good Shepherd. He noted the recent appointment of Pope Leo XIV as the spiritual leader of the Christian community and emphasised the Pope's call for global peace. The bishop urged the faithful to support the soldiers who risk their lives to protect the nation and to pray for peace, especially in the face of looming threats along the India-Pakistan border .The pope's message stressed the need for dialogue and building bridges to achieve lasting peace. Bishop Lobo encouraged the congregation to stand in solidarity with the soldiers and to instil confidence and courage in them through prayers and support. Diocese of Udupi celebrates ordination of new priests

Karkala: The Diocese of Udupi was filled with joy and thanksgiving as two young deacons were ordained to the sacred priesthood at St Lawrence Minor Basilica Attur Karkala, on Friday. Most Rev Gerald Isaac Lobo, bishop of Udupi, presided over the ordination ceremony, which drew hundreds of faithful, diocesan priests, religious, and well-wishers. The two deacons ordained as priests were Fr Rohan Edward Mascarenhas (Kelmbet, Bola) and Fr Oswald Vas (Hirgan). In his homily, Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo explained the religious and social responsibilities of a priest. He praised the family that provided the new spiritual leader to the religious community and called upon Christian families to encourage more young people to step forward and become spiritual leaders. After the rites and rituals, including the Rite of Ordination, the promise of obedience to the bishop, prostrating and seeking help of the saints, laying on of hands invoking the Holy Spirit, anointing of the hands, receiving the chalice, and finally the Kiss of Peace was given by the bishop in the presence of priests, religious, and faithful. The Holy Eucharist continued with the new priests , along with the Bishops and other priests, at the altar.
