Rosehill Gardens Saturday tips, inside mail: $14 chance set for ‘peak' performance
Khumbila, named after a mountain in the Himalayas that has never been climbed, is set for a 'peak' performance of his own when he resumes in the Midway Handicap (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday. Gerald Ryan, who trains in partnership with Sterling Alexiou, said rising five-year-old Khumbila was coming up well for his winter preparation before revealing the origin of the horse's name. 'Apparently Khumbila is a mountain close to Everest which has never been climbed, they say it is too hard,'' Ryan said. 'This horse is by All Too Hard so that is where he got his name.'' Khumbila, the racehorse, has only had 12 starts but has shown glimpses of talent with two wins and five minor placings. Ryan believes Khumbila might be better suited when kept to sprint distances after failing when pushed out to 1500m last spring. 'We might have stretched him too far last preparation chasing that Four Pillars race,'' Ryan said. 'Then we brought him back to a shorter journey at Wyong and he ran terrific to finish third. 'But he got 'crook' and had a temperature after that run so we sent him for a spell.'' Khumbila impressed in a recent Rosehill 900m barrier trial when a close third to stakes winners Robusto and Semillion. The Ingham winner Robusto returns with a strong trial win at Rosehill on Friday. The @BBakerRacing gelding, a last start second in The Lakes, runs down Semillion in the 900m heat with Khumbila in third. @tabcomau — Racing NSW (@racing_nsw) May 9, 2025 'I thought he trialled nicely, he has returned in good order and is going really well,'' Ryan enthused. In latest TAB Fixed Odds betting, Khumbila is at generous odds of $14 for the Midway for which the Paul Murray -trained Harry's Bar is the $4 favourite. The Ryan and Alexiou stable has two runners for their home track meeting with Pajanti going second-up into the TAB Handicap (1200m). Pajanti returned with a fast-finishing second to Memoria at Randwic k last month and Ryan said it had been a deliberate tactic to give the mare four weeks between runs. Memoria leads from start to finish to take out Race 7 at Randwick! @Leesracing — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) April 26, 2025 'We feel Pajanti is good fresh so we waited a month for this race,'' Ryan said. 'Then she has three weeks into the Gai Waterhouse Classic. We are trying to get some black type with her as she is an expensive mare.'' Pajanti is at $9.50 in latest betting behind the Joe Pride -trained Weeping Woman at $4.60. At Eagle Farm, Ryan is hoping promising Just Party gets some luck in running after drawing right off the track for the Group 3 $300,000 Fred Best Classic (1400m). Just Party, a son of unbeaten US Triple Crown winner Justify, resumed with a fast-finishing second to Media World in the Hawkesbury Guineas earlier this month. They again clash in the Fred Best Classic with both rated at $8 behind the Chris Waller -trained Angel Capital at $3.10 favourite. ðŸŒ Media World hangs on in the G3 @hawkesburyrc Guineas and makes it two in a row! @SnowdenRacing1 | @G1TySchil | @YulongInvest — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) May 3, 2025 â– â– â– â– â– Race 1: Zebra Finch $4.80-$4.60 Race 2: Boys Night Out $3.30-$2.80, Warrior For Peace $5-$3.50 Race 3: Harry's Bar $4.20-$4, I Am Brave $6.50-$4.40, Lady Extreme $8.50-$4.60, Vegas Raider $12-$6 Race 4: Hopper $12-$7 Race 5: Ellipsis $11-$4.60, Massira $19-$10 Race 6: Pure Alpha $7.50-$5.50, Little Cointreau $7.50-$6, Scalextrics $18-$9.50 Race 7: Kerguelen $3.30-$3.10, Unstopabull $11-$6, Spanish Fox $26-$10, Smashing Time $26-$11 Race 8: Glory Daze $11-$4.60, Major Beel $8-$6, Private Legacy $8-$6.50, Touristic $11-$7.50, Shahzad $26-$12 Race 9: Misterkipchoge $8-$5 including a $1000 each way at $7/$2.30, Cormac T $8-$6.50, Anderson Bridge $15-$8, Half Yours $11-$8.50 with a bet of $2000 at $9, Good Prize $19-$10 Race 10: Weeping Woman $8-$4.60 A filly chasing a third win from five starts has been strongly fancied to make it two wins from two start this preparation at Rosehill on Saturday. She ran her final 600m in 33.85s as she raced clear of her rivals. Race 7 No.9 UNSTOPABULL turned for home with his 14 rivals in front of him but he switched back towards the inside and drove through the field, finishing fast for fifth to Zealously. He would have run his last 600m in sub-34s, one of the fastest closing sectionals of the day. Zealously with a big win after leading all the way at Scone! ðŸ'¨ @NockBraith | @SnowdenRacing1 — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) May 17, 2025 • â– â– â– â– â– TRIAL POINTERS Race 3 No.5 KHUMBILA is resuming after a five-month break but he trialled very well at Rosehill on May 9 when third to stakes winners Robusto and Semillion. Khumbila, who was fresh and keen in the trial, raced three wide without cover throughout the 900m heat and was still closing off nicely to finish within a length of the winner. Race 7 No.3 FULLY LIT hasn't raced since the Golden Slipper last year when he ran 10th to Lady Of Camelot. Fully Lit showed plenty of ability last season winning the Inglis Millennium and also finishing a close second in the Black Opal. He's had two barrier trials to prepare for his comeback, finishing third after racing wide to I Am Brave at Randwick on April 24 then racing on speed and holding his ground when third to Ellipsis at Warwick Farm two weeks ago. The @GaiWaterhouse1 -Bott 2YOs are unstoppable! ðŸ'¥ Fully Lit wins the $2 million @inglis_sales Millennium from a tricky draw in tough fashion. — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) February 10, 2024 • Gibbons' injury silver lining: 'It was a break I didn't know I wanted but needed' â– â– â– â– â– BEST BET Race 7 No.10 KERGUELEN is a promising Godolphin sprinter resuming after six months. He has not missed a top two finish in five starts, winning twice, including his runaway win on debut at Kembla nearly a year ago when he put 10 lengths on his chasing rivals in heavy going. He also won at Warwick Farm in heavy going that same preparation. Trainer James Cummings has given Kerguelen two very easy trials to prepare for his comeback, the most recent when he was kept under a tight hold before finishing a close sixth to Angel Capital on the Polytrack at Warwick Farm. He handles wet tracks and sprints well fresh. Angel Capital (#HarryAngel), the multiple Group winner, stepped out at Warwick Farm trials today ðŸ'‡ — Darley in Australia (@DarleyAus) May 22, 2025 • Schiller to be sidelined for six weeks with fracture â– â– â– â– â– VALUE Race 4 No.12 LIKE LUKEY resumed in the Scone Country Cup and came from near last on the turn with a strong run through near the inside to finish second, beaten less than a length by all-the-way upset winner Who Ever Thought. Like Lukey's comeback effort at 1400m was eye-catching, going out to 1500m suits, she's drawn well and should settle closer to the lead, and she won second-up by a big margin when last in work. Like Lukey is very genuine and terrific each way value around $12.

Shayne O'Cass' race-by-race tips, analysis for Randwick on Saturday

SUBSCRIBE NOW! â– â– â– â– â– MATIMA (4) has a real wet-trackers pedigree being by Lonhro out of a Commands mare out of a Canny Lad mare. The Commands mare is his dam Demerara who won the Silk Stocking on a Heavy 10. The Canny Lad mare is Happy Sailing who beat Phillipa Rush in the 1990 Coolmore. Matima won her Hawkesbury debut 1000m Maiden with a hint of quality if you ask me. ARISTOCRAT (7) has none of the favours that Regulated Affair had in that deep Warwick Farm Maiden. Has a bright future. Bet: Matima to win â– â– â– â– â– FIRST MISSION (9) is a Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou-trained son of (Ryan trained) Snitzel. The Wanless owned gelding has two wins, two seconds and a very honourable fifth from his five starts. Worth noting that like his dear old dad, First Mission is one for one on Heavy. ALLEGRO MISS (16) is by another great wet-tracker in Russian Revolution. Dam is by muddie sire Smart Missile, which probably accounts for her Heavy 10 win last start at Newcastle. â– â– â– â– â– RACE 3: TAB HIGHWAY HANDICAP 1200m Got to mention another wet track positive influence here; Cosmic Force, the sire of CHEMTRAIL (11). Cosmic Force will always be remembered for his seven length win in the Pago Pago. As for Chemtrail, Highway master Danny Williams has him perfectly tuned and seasoned for his city visit, third-up, and off an easy win. SO YOU PENCE (2) has been just expertly placed and managed by Matthew Dale hence the almost faultless record. When he wins, he usually thrashes them too. Bet: Chemtrail each-way, quinella 2, 11, box trifecta 2, 4, 10, 11 â– â– â– â– â– I respect Roger James at any racetrack at any time of the year but times that by ten when it's Brisbane in the winter time. He and co-trainer Robert Wellington are making their way up there, via Randwick, with this incredibly gifted and untapped filly, SHE'S A DEALER (3). Hard to line up New Zealand form at times, but she just looks like a good filly. She could win the Oaks. I maintain AUTOMNE TREE (10) can win the Derby. He's got Gold Trip close up and he just wants to stay. Bet: She's A Dealer, exacta 3 to beat 10 â– â– â– â– â– TRAPALANDA (15) has been crying out for 2400m since he got here and the Archibald's have got this talented young import there in absolute mint condition. He ran well at his Aussie debut over 1800jm and was even better the next time at the Gosford stand-alone over 2100m. On-pacer (now at the trip) who will handle the wet and stay. VRC St Leger winner AHURIRI (7) won on a Heavy 9 last start over 1900m. Form and timing reads well. GALILAEUS (6) stays, PHILIPSBURG (5) does too and he loves it Heavy. Bet: Trapalanda to win â– â– â– â– â– MISS JENNIFER (13) has a pedigree that John Hawkes would take great pride and interest in given her fourth dam was the Hall of Famer's first champion, Toltrice. One other thing about this Danny Williams-trained mare is her fabulous set of numbers at the track, the trip and on all ground. EPIC PROPORTIONS (5) was runner-up at her only Randwick run to Cigar Flick no less. Handles the wet, likes the trip. WINNING PROPOSAL (10) was hard to miss first-up in the same race as the unlucky Miss Jennifer. Bet: Miss Jennifer each-way â– â– â– â– â– QUANTUM CAT (14) was only just beaten in that 1800m Benchmark 78 on Hawkesbury Cup Day. He had 58.5kg that day, a good deal more than this Saturday (albeit in a Bm88) but the fact he more or less ticked the Heavy box (first time), gives him some added appeal. That, and the fact that this is 2000m and he has won over 2514m. (12) has numbers that say it better than words can. Best is good enough. ZAPHOD (8) and JAMBEROO (9) have obvious claims. Bet: Quantum Cat each-way â– â– â– â– â– GREEN FLY (3), the Frankel son and 'nephew' of the great Japanese galloper Admire Mars, was monumentally impressive when he won at his NSW debut at Rosehill on April 1 beating Cool Jakey, Dark Glitter and co. You could argue that his fifth to Punch Lane here 25-days later was an even better run. Won twice on Heavy. Eager to see how the market treats DIABLO BOLT (9) here. The testing track hasn't made his job of winning first-up easy but he has a good fresh record he trialled well. Bet: Green Fly to win, Diablo Bolt to place, Daily Double 1st Leg 3, 2nd Leg 10 â– â– â– â– â– KAZALARK (15) was balloted out of a 1400m race at Sandown tomorrow so runs here at the same trip but with the advantage of a Heavy track bearing in mind that his only win so far was on an 8 at Hawkesbury just before his neck second in the Spring Stakes at Newcastle. Pedigree fans take note; his third dam is Riverina Charm. Shapes a big improver. The market will tell a story with GUZUMPED (14) first-up. The son of Dundeel has a good fresh record and is most adept on rain affected tracks. â– â– â– â– â– Never been to Awapuni myself but I know enough to know that it if you can win on a Heavy 10 there, a Heavy 10 at Randwick will present no issues. Enter SHE'S UNUSUAL (10), the OTI mare from the O'Shea and Charlton barn who boast an exemplary record of three wins and four seconds from eight starts. Stars align, big time. ALLAPERCANTO (8) is two from two on Soft, first-up on a Heavy 9 or 10 or whatever isn't easy but she could be the one late. HELLBENT ON YOU (5) is fit and in-form.
