Edinburgh Airport passengers told of 'major new security change for liquids'

New multi-million pound technology at Edinburgh Airport will allow all passengers to keep liquids and large electrical items in their bags. Bosses say eight newly installed security scanners costing £24m will enable flyers to move through security more quickly - while also boosting safety with the use of 3D tech. Although liquids still need to be 100ml or under, they can be left in bags - meaning the airport will no longer issue single-use plastic bags. Large electrical items such as iPads, tablets, and laptops can also stay in hand luggage. There had been much speculation as to whether the UK would meet the criteria for a heatwave this week but forecasters believe we will fall just short of the 27C degrees required. David Oliver, Met Office deputy chief meteorologist, said: 'Despite media speculation, next week's conditions are likely to fall just outside of official Met Office heatwave thresholds. However, this shouldn't lead to any disappointment as many can anticipate a very fine spell of weather with temperatures reaching 27°C during the middle of the week.' Met Office chief forecaster Matthew Lehnert said: 'We are not expecting the April UK temperature record to be broken, but some locations may nudge local records. This air mass will be warmed by compression as the high pressure begins to build, and this warmth will be boosted by daytime heating from the April sun.'
