Former Oregon State quarterback with 7,000-plus passing yards enters transfer portal
Texas State quarterback Gevani McCoy entered the NCAA transfer portal on Thursday. He committed to the Bobcats on Jan. 14 after transferring from Oregon State.
The 6-foot, 182-pound quarterback appeared in 10 games at Oregon State in 2024 as a redshirt junior. He completed 123-of-202 passing attempts for 1,300 yards, three touchdowns and six interceptions, while rushing for 328 yards and five touchdowns on 59 attempts.
McCoy transferred to Oregon State from Idaho ahead of the 2024 season. He played at Idaho from 2021-23 and was named a 2023 Walter Payton Award finalist, recognizing the top offensive player in FCS football.
At Idaho, McCoy totaled 2,919 passing yards and 15 passing touchdowns in 2023, 2,735 passing yards and 27 touchdowns in 2022 and 205 passing yards and one passing touchdown in 2021. He also recorded one reception for 14 yards.
McCoy is from Lakewood High School in Lakewood, California and has totaled 7,159 career passing yards.
The NCAA transfer portal opened Wednesday and will close on April 25.
