Cops win int'l award for deepfake drive
Lucknow: The Shrawasti superintendent of police Ghanashyam Chaurasia was awarded the 'Silver Polaris Award' at the Polaris Leadership Summit 2025, hosted by Capital Media Group, London.
The award was presented in the 'Anti-Disinformation' category for the innovative public awareness initiative — 'Shrawasti's 2024 Deepfake Detection Campaign'.
This accolade marks the first global recognition for Shrawasti Police, celebrating their efforts in leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to drive positive change in society, officials said. The campaign was launched under the cyber awareness vision of chief minister Yogi Adityanath and supervised by director general of police Rajeev Krishna.
Led by Chaurasia, the programme was executed in collaboration with Noida-based organisations Netritvshala and 'Inclusive AI'. It was India's first district-level deepfake drive, educating students, citizens, police personnel and public representatives on identifying deepfake content and adopting digital safety measures.
Jamal Asgar Rana coordinated the event for Shravasti police.
In a commendation letter, Nazli Selin Ozkan, managing director of Capital Media Group, London, wrote: "Under your leadership, a small district in Asia has set a global example. You have turned the concept of 'AI for Good' into reality." She further noted: "Your pioneering work against deep fakes is now a global benchmark for electoral transparency."
