Avengers: Doomsday Rumor: Ghost Rider Could Join Cast With New Actor

Industry insiders claim that a version of Ghost Rider could potentially appear in Avengers: Doomsday. These speculations come after Disney and Marvel Studios delayed the release of Doomsday to December 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars to December 17, 2027. Scooper and journalist Jeff Sneider speculated on The Hot Mic podcast that Marvel was looking for an actor to play Ghost Rider. 'I have heard this week that Marvel is casting the role of Ghost Rider,' Sneider said. After his co-host John Rocha expressed his surprise, Sneider added, 'And that's for Doomsday. I am hearing Ghost Rider is going to be in Doomsday.' This prompted Rocha to ask whether this appearance would be a fan service and Nicolas Cage would return as Johnny Blaze after portraying the character in Ghost Rider (2007) and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2011). Rocha also wondered whether this Ghost Rider would alternatively be a different version who would take over the mantle and eventually be part of the Midnight Sons storyline, along with Blade and others. Sneider subsequently clarified that Marvel was casting a new actor and wasn't bringing back Nicolas Cage. He explained, 'That would just be a phone call, right? This is a search.' When Rocha asked if Sneider knew whether this iteration of Ghost Rider would be Blaze or some other version, the latter admitted that he didn't. 'Ghost Rider to me is Johnny Blaze,' he elaborated. 'Are there other Ghost Riders?' After Rocha laughed and said yes, there were, Sneider responded, 'I have no idea what you're talking about right now. To me, Johnny Blaze is Ghost Rider.' As Rocha said, there have been several Ghost Riders in Marvel Comics. A gunslinger named Carter Slade was known as Ghost Rider. After the debut of the motorcycle-riding character, Slade's alias was retroactively changed to Phantom Rider. Sam Elliott portrayed the character in the 2007 movie. Besides those two, Daniel Ketch, Alejandra Jones, and Robbie Reyes have also been Ghost Rider in the comics. The Last of Us actor Gabriel Luna portrayed Reyes in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Spacecraft swoops around moon to prepare for landing, snaps footage

The Blue Ghost spacecraft is on track for the big show. The 6.6-foot-tall lander will attempt to touch down in Mare Crisium, a lava-covered basin on the moon's near side, on March 2. Mission controllers at Texas-based Firefly Aerospace have successfully fired thrusters to enter a lower orbit around the moon, in preparation for the much-anticipated landing event. The company released footage Blue Ghost captured during one of these recent orbital maneuvers. What's more, you can catch two glimpses of shadowed Earth at the beginning and end of the time-lapse video. SEE ALSO: Why landing a spaceship on the moon is still so challenging "Earth rise, Earth set, repeat! Blue Ghost's third and final lunar orbit maneuver is complete!" Firefly Aerospace posted on X. "Early this morning, our #GhostRiders performed a 16-second burn with our RCS thrusters to enter a near-circular low lunar orbit. Up next, we'll perform a 19-second Descent Orbit Insertion at our 100-km perilune to begin our descent to Blue Ghost's final destination, Mare Crisium, on March 2." The mission, funded by NASA as part of its Commercial Lunar Payload Services program, is carrying a suite of instruments and experiments for the space agency as NASA prepares to establish a permanent presence on the moon. This includes radiation-tolerant computing tests and sampling of the lunar regolith. But landing on the moon, a world with virtually no atmosphere to slow spacecraft down, remains daunting. Although Chinese and Indian craft have had recent landing successes, the U.S. commercial spacecraft Odysseus sustained damage while landing awkwardly in 2024. The same year, a Japanese craft landed upside down, on its head. In the coming years, NASA intends to land astronauts on the moon, too. The agency currently expects to bring astronauts to the moon in mid-2027, wherein they'll spend a week exploring the dark, shadowy craters of the moon's south pole. It's home to a vitally important resource: lunar water.

Firefly Aerospace is primed for a lunar landing attempt on Sunday (March 2) following a series of successful maneuvers in lunar orbit. The company's Blue Ghost lander entered lunar orbit on Feb. 13, after launching atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket on Jan. 15. It has since been lowering its orbit in preparation for a moon landing and is now all set for the upcoming attempt. "Blue Ghost's third and final lunar orbit maneuver is complete! Early this morning, our #GhostRiders performed a 16-second burn with our RCS thrusters to enter a near-circular low lunar orbit," Texas-based Firefly stated in a post on the social media platform X today (Feb. 24). A video embedded in the post shows footage of the heavily cratered lunar surface from the vantage point of the Blue Ghost spacecraft, also capturing the distant Earth and the dazzling sun, which causes lens flare. The footage was taken as Blue Ghost orbited the moon following an earlier lunar orbit maneuver. The engine burns have set up Blue Ghost for a moon landing attempt on Sunday. "Up next, we'll perform a 19-second Descent Orbit Insertion at our 100-km perilune to begin our descent to Blue Ghost's final destination, Mare Crisium, on March 2," the Firefly post read. CLPS was established as part of the Artemis program to contract private companies to deliver the agency's science payloads to the moon. The lander is carrying 10 NASA payloads with science objectives including studying the lunar regolith, or the moon's dusty surface, the lunar radiation environment and the solar wind. Blue Ghost is aiming to become the second private lander to successfully soft-land on the moon, just over a year after Intuitive Machines' Odysseus lander. If all goes well, the solar-powered spacecraft will operate on the surface of the moon for one lunar day, or about 14 Earth days, with lunar sunset expected to bring an end to the mission.
