Image used is for representational purposes only DEHRADUN: A patwari posted in Kalsi area of Dehradun swallowed four currency notes of Rs 500 denomination after he was allegedly caught red-handed by the state vigilance department while accepting a bribe from a local resident on Monday. According to vigilance department officials, a person had alleged that patwari Ghulam Haider demanded a bribe of Rs 2,000 for issuing domicile certificates to two of his relatives. An officer of the state vigilance department said, "Acting on the complaint, a trap was laid to nab him. As per the pre-planned action, the relative of the complainant went to the Kalsi tehsil office on Monday with the bribe money, which Haider accepted. Within a few minutes, vigilance deptment officials nabbed him, but Haider swallowed the money in an attempt to destroy evidence." Director state vigilance department, V Murugesan, said, "Haider was arrested."

Koderma: The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge I cum Special POCSO Judge Ghulam Haider on Monday sentenced Sanjay Kumar alias Sanjay Yadav (29), a resident of Pipradih, Bekobar, under Koderma police station limits, to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment for the forceful rape of a minor girl. The court found him guilty under Section 6 (read with) Section 5(1) of the POCSO Act . In addition to the prison term, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the convict. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional two years of imprisonment. Furthermore, the same court also held Sanjay Kumar guilty under Section 450 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), for which he was sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 6,000. Non-payment of this fine will entail an extra six months of jail time. He also received a six-month imprisonment sentence under Section 323 IPC, with all sentences set to run concurrently. The case dates back to 2023 when the minor victim filed a complaint at the Koderma police station. In her statement, she recounted how the accused would enter her house through the roof when no one else was present, forcibly assault and rape her, and even bite her in several places. Emphasising the gravity of the crime, the Public Prosecutor urged the court to impose the maximum possible punishment. The defence counsel presented their arguments in favour of the accused. After a thorough examination of the evidence and witness testimonies, the court found Sanjay Kumar guilty of the heinous crime and pronounced the significant sentence.
