Musketeers begin Clark Cup chase at home; host Fargo in best-of-three first round series

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) – The USHL Regular Season has come to a close as the field of 16 teams in the league is down to 12 in time for the Clark Cup Playoffs. Sioux City begins its Cup Chase at home against defending champ Fargo. Sioux City earned home advantage in the opening round with a strong finish to the end of the regular season, coming away with six wins in the month of March. The Musketeers finished the regular season with the top two point scorers in the league in Landen Gunderson and Giacomo Martino, who is the first Sioux City player in the Tier 1 era to do so. Earning home ice is a product of the work the Muskies put in, but they also have bigger goals ahead. 'It feels really good. Getting home ice advantage is a big deal in the playoffs and hopefully we can have two strong games at home and then go to Lincoln,' Martino said. 'It's a huge advantage. We have great fans and we're excited to play in front of them. It's definitely gonna help us,' Musketeers forward Justin Stupka added. 'We have been very connected. We are a tight group and getting ready for the playoffs is always a big thing,' Musketeers forward Trey Jefferis said. The best-of-three first round begins tomorrow at the Tyson Events Center. Sioux City and Fargo will play Game 2 on Wednesday and a winner-take-all Game 3, if necessary, on Thursday. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. for all first round games in Sioux City. ‘Our work is before our skill' – Musketeers attribute five-game win streak to practice performance

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) – The Sioux City Musketeers are on the cusp of an important three home game in three day stretch with the chance to secure home ice for the first round of the USHL Clark Cup Playoffs. Sioux City, who has already locked up a Western Conference playoff spot, enters the weekend on a five-game win streak. The Musketeers have scored five or more goals in each of its last wins and boast one of the hottest players in the league in Giacomo Martino, who is tied for the most points in the USHL. He's tallied 14 points in his last six games. Sioux City is far from content with earning a playoff spot, with the Musketeers aiming to earn home ice in the opening round as the team feels its work in practice has translated to recent success. 'We're practicing like we are playing, and we've been dialing in our game at practice. It's leaned into our on-ice performance. Our work is before our skill. We're working hard, getting pucks, and letting the skill do the working,' Musketeers defenseman Liam Hupka said. 'We're generally playing on the weekends. So, we have Monday through Thursday to get your house in order to prepare to play well on the weekends,' Musketeers head coach Jason Kersner added. 'This five-game stretch, we started hot, and we had a really good stretch in January…there's no doubt that how we've gone about our business Monday through Thursday has made a significant impact on how we play on the weekend.' 'We're trying to keep momentum and we don't want to take our foot off the gas at all,' Musketeers defenseman Landon Nycz mentioned. Sioux City will face three different opponents in three consecutive games, kicking off the slate tonight at 7:05 p.m. against Dubuque. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
