It's still all to play for in the race for the Champions League places on the final day of the Premier League season on Sunday and our expert has three tips for the crucial fixture between Nottingham Forest and Chelsea (kick-off, 4pm). Hosts value to secure vital win Only a win will guarantee Chelsea a place in the top five and qualification for next season's Champions League, while Forest need all three points to have a chance of reaching Europe's top club competition. Clearly the stakes are high for both clubs, but it's easy to frame this as there being more pressure on Chelsea. Forest have already exceeded most people's expectations in securing European qualification of one form or another for next season and this is now something of a free hit. Chelsea may need the win just to hold what they have. The bookies make Chelsea favourites, but Forest have played some of their best football this season as the underdogs – it's only in recent weeks when trying to hold a Champions League place that the wheels have fallen off a bit – and they look good value in the win market to get the job done. Gibbs-White to find the target Forest captain Morgan Gibbs-White has scored in his club's previous two fixtures and is a value bet to threaten the Chelsea goal. Fresh from an England call-up and possibly playing his last game for Forest ahead of a summer transfer, Gibbs White will be trying to haul the club into one of those coveted Champions League spots and can be backed at evens to hit the target thanks to a generous-looking Price Boost. Forest captain a marked man Chelsea will know Gibbs-White is one of the main threats to their Champions League aspirations so they will be doing all they can to stop the Forest playmaker getting shots away. It's easy to see them – and in particular midfield enforcer Moises Caicedo – overstepping the mark at times and Gibbs-White, with his close control, is good at drawing fouls. West Ham United vs Nottingham Forest LIVE: Premier League latest score, goals and updates from fixture
Follow live coverage as West Ham United face Nottingham Forest today in the Premier League. Another top-flight season will be covered in full right here with The Independent, as reigning champions Manchester City look to make it an unprecedented five titles in a row come the end of 2024/25. The likes of Arsenal and Liverpool will be chasing Pep Guardiola's side, but just as fascinating will be the race for Champions League places, with more teams than ever before having designs on top-four finishes. Chelsea remain big-spending, Manchester United's latest rebuild continues and both Tottenham and Newcastle will expect improvements this year - yet it was Aston Villa who snared fourth last term. Meanwhile, it's Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town who made it back to the elite after promotion last year and each will have hope they can make it more than a one-year stay. Follow the latest live action from the Premier League below: West Ham United vs Nottingham Forest Nottingham Forest hold the advantage at the break after Gibbs-White was gifted an early goal by the Hammers keeper. Areola tried to play the ball out from the back and played a pass to Rodriguez, but he wasn't alert to it and the pass was short, allowing Gibbs-White to nick it away from him and then keep his cool and fire the ball into the back of an empty net. The visitors have had the better chances in the game, with Gibbs-White and Wood both forcing Areola into excellent saves, whilst the latter also struck the post with a header from a corner. Meanwhile, West Ham have dominated much of the possession, but they've not done enough with it, with Coufal having their best opportunity early on, with a low strike heading towards the bottom right corner, but Sels was equal to it. This is reflected in the xG, with Forest favoured at 1.31, compared to 0.41 xG for the home side. 18 May 2025 15:12 West Ham United vs Nottingham Forest 18 May 2025 15:09 West Ham United vs Nottingham Forest Worry here for Murillo, he appears to be in a bit of pain and is hobbling off the pitch prior to a Forest corner. There may need to be a change at the break for the visitors. 18 May 2025 15:08 West Ham United vs Nottingham Forest Stoppage in play here deep in stoppage time, with Murillo the man down inside the box and he requires some treatment after a collision following a Forest corner. 18 May 2025 15:07 West Ham United vs Nottingham Forest Yellow Card Vladimír Coufal 18 May 2025 15:03 West Ham United vs Nottingham Forest There will be a minimum of four minutes added time played at the end of the first half. 18 May 2025 15:02 West Ham United vs Nottingham Forest Forest have generated chances worth 1.31 xG so far in the first half, already their third-highest tally of this Premier League season in the opening 45 minutes of a match. 18 May 2025 14:59 West Ham United vs Nottingham Forest CHANCE! Wood sneaks in behind the West Ham defence and races through on goal, he tries to slide it across to Elanga, but it's cut out by Areola. However, the rebound falls straight back to him and he has another go, this time shooting, but Areola palms the strike away down to his right. Really good opportunity for Forest to make it 2-0 before half-time. 18 May 2025 14:58 West Ham United vs Nottingham Forest We're almost at the break now, can West Ham find the equaliser before the half-time whistle? Or, will Forest be able to double their advantage? 18 May 2025 14:57 West Ham United vs Nottingham Forest The visitors are looking to break on the counter-attack whenever they can, using the pace of Elanga and Gibbs-White to their advantage. They are also getting joy in the West Ham half when the home side lose possession, as they are still making too many sloppy passes, just handing it back to their opponents. 18 May 2025 14:56

Transfer Q&A: What fee should Forest be asking for Gibbs-White?
BBC Sport football news reporter Nick Mashiter has been answering your questions on the transfer window. Ed: Morgan Gibbs-White is the best player I've seen in the shirt since Stan Collymore (other than perhaps Murillo). How likely is the noise around a move to Manchester City? Do they honestly view him as a direct replacement for Kevin de Bruyne? If it happens, what fee do you think is on the cards? He must be worth £60m plus in the current market?Nick: He is on the radar at City - and why wouldn't he be?Gibbs-White has enjoyed a fantastic season and was rightly - even if it was a delayed call after initially being omitted - included in Thomas Tuchel's first England Espirito Santo said in January that the most important thing was not bringing players in, but keeping those who were already in the building. They are likely to share equal importance this summer, with Forest needing to build on what has been a great may need to add more goals to his game - he has six this season - but his form over the past 18 months shows Forest were right to pay a little over £40m to Wolves three years that into account, and the market being as it is, then Forest would be well within their rights to look to double their money.

Nottingham Forest want James McAtee and Liam Delap among five key transfer targets
Nottingham Forest are targeting at least five new signings this summer as they prepare for a return to European football. Forest will aim to strengthen their squad in key positions by recruiting two forwards, a left-back, two wingers and another goalkeeper. With Nuno Espirito Santo fighting to qualify for either the Champions League or Europa League, Forest are expecting a busy summer and are determined to add quality and depth to what will be a 22-man squad to comply with Uefa regulations. Since achieving promotion in 2022, Forest have spent more than £250 million on players and the remit this summer will be to recruit signings of around the £20 million to £30 million mark. Forest's recruitment model has delivered many successes for bargain transfer fees including Nikola Milenkovic (£10.1 million from Fiorentina), Murillo (£10 million from Corinthians), Callum Hudson-Odoi (£3 million from Chelsea) and Anthony Elanga (£13.5 million from Manchester United). Gibbs-White future uncertain as Forest target key positions Forest have a number of targets including Rennes left-back Adrien Truffert, Manchester City attacking midfielder James McAtee, Ipswich Town forward Liam Delap and Southampton's Mateus Fernandes. There is no pressure to sell any players to comply with Profitability and Sustainability Rules [PSR] and Forest's finances are in a healthy state with the club reporting a pre-tax profit of £12.1 million in their last accounts. However, it is certain that some players will leave this summer to create room for the squad and to increase quality. The future of England international Morgan Gibbs-White remains uncertain, with Manchester City interested, and will likely dictate Forest's transfer strategy. Forest have registered their interest in Delap, who will be available for around £30 million following Ipswich's relegation. There is an acceptance that Delap has many other admirers, including Manchester United, Chelsea and Newcastle United, and while reaching a deal may be remote Forest believe he would flourish in their game model. Forest have scouted many other forwards in Germany and France, while Brentford's Yoane Wissa remains on their radar. Wissa has been a target for Forest over the past two transfer windows and another move is expected if the asking price is viewed as sensible. Left-back specialist wanted to help breakout star Williams A top priority for Forest is at left-back, despite Wales international Neco Williams emerging as one of their stars of the season. With Aston Villa loanee Alex Moreno to return to his parent club and uncertainty over the future of Harry Toffolo, who is a free agent this summer, Forest want to bring in a specialist in that position to cope with the increase in matches. Among the options is Rennes's France international Truffert, 23. Truffert has been on Forest's radar for over 12 months and is highly regarded, though there are other names on the list. Forest are also long-term admirers of City's England under-21 international McAtee. Fernandes, 20, is also under consideration following Southampton's relegation and fits Forest's profile with his age and potential. Nuno will be heavily involved in recruitment but has admitted that talks will be delayed until Forest know exactly what competition they will be operating in, with Champions League qualification still possible. He said: 'People in the club are dealing with next season, not us as coaching staff. 'This moment requires everything that you have for the responsibilities ahead of us. 'The recruitment staff and scouting team will be working on that and there will be the right moment to speak and sit down.' Player retention and planned exits Forest will look to retain the core of their squad by holding discussions over new contracts. Williams is in line for an improved deal after his excellent season, and Hudson-Odoi has held initial talks over improved terms with discussions to advance in the summer. Ola Aina has been another stand-out player and the expectation is that he will sign a new contract that has been on the table for months. He has already triggered an extra year which will cover next season. Many other key players are already signed up, with Murillo and Chris Wood committing their futures to the club earlier this year. Departures are certain, though, with many players either out on loan or struggling for first-team opportunities to be sold. Tyler Bindon, the New Zealand international, was signed for £700,000 from Reading in January and then loaned back to the League One club. He will join Forest for pre-season and is viewed as a young player with big potential. A loan to the Championship is likely. Edu arrival will aid Marinakis' plans The expectation is still that Edu, the former Arsenal sporting director, will join Evangelos Marinakis' group as the head of his global football operations. Edu is in line for a senior role working across Marinakis' multi-club ownerships and, though the precise nature of the position is still under discussion, his arrival is regarded as a formality. After leaving Arsenal in November, Edu's gardening leave period has now ended. The prospect of a position heading up Marinakis' football clubs appeals to the Brazilian, who resigned from Arsenal following a successful five-year period. Forest are in talks to finalise their pre-season plans with a training camp in Europe. A short tour in either the United States or Australia was floated but ultimately viewed as not commercially viable, so Spain or Portugal appears most likely.
