Texas A&M is the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA softball tournament for the first time
Texas A&M is the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA softball tournament for the first time We're Hosting! 📍🥎 The overall No. 1 seeded Aggies will take on Saint Francis on Friday at 2:30 PM CT 👍#GigEm — Texas A&M Softball (@AggieSoftball) May 11, 2025 No. 1 Texas A&M (45-9, 16-7 SEC) ended the week with a run-rule blowout 14-2 win over the Texas Longhorns on Friday night during the SEC Tournament semifinal round, just a day after run-ruling South Carolina on Thursday evening. Riding high with plenty of momentum, the Aggies were headed to the SEC Championship game slated for Saturday afternoon. However, after making it to the Championship round against the Oklahoma Sooners, inclement weather in Athens, Georgia led to SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey's decision to abruptly cancel the game, a blow to both fan bases. This was certainly a disappointment for the Aggies, who deserved a shot to win their first conference title in program history. Alas, this was just one step towards a deep run in the NCAA Tournament. On Sunday night, Texas A&M, who finished the regular season ranked No. 1 with 45 wins, including 16 in conference play, all but earned the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, as selection Sunday agreed with the Aggie fan base that these young women, led by head coach Trichia Ford, deserves to be the top seed. To no surprise, Texas A&M is your No. 1 overall team in the NCAA Tournament and will host Saint Francis (26-24) in the Regional Round in Bryan-College Station, starting on Friday, May 16. Game 1 is set for 3:30 p.m. ET., as the Aggies will begin their journey to earn their third National Championship in program history. Here is the Bryan-College Station Regional bracket: No. 1 Texas A&M vs. No. 4 Saint Francis No. 2 Marist (47-7-1) vs. No. 2 Liberty (47-12) Texas A&M vs. Saint Francis on Friday will air on the SEC Network, while Marist vs. Liberty with be available to stream on ESPN+ on Friday, at 1:00 p.m. ET. New Texas A&M HC Bucky McMillan will bring a familiar face to 2025 coaching staff
New Texas A&M HC Bucky McMillan will bring a familiar face to 2025 coaching staff Welcome back to Aggieland, Mitch Cole 👍 Cole served on Billy Kennedy's Texas A&M staff for five seasons from 2011-16 and now joins new head coach, Bucky McMillan! 📰 — Texas A&M Basketball (@aggiembk) April 5, 2025 New Texas A&M basketball head coach Bucky McMillan is beginning to fill out his 2025 coaching staff after being officially hired on Saturday afternoon after five seasons at Samford. After the news was revealed on Friday night, one name that Aggie fans are highly familiar with is accomplished assistant Mitch Cole. Before arrived at Samford to join McMillan's staff at the start of the 2021 season, Cole's college basketball journey included five seasons (2011-2016) at Texas A&M under former head coach Billy Kennedy, helping guide the Aggies to the Sweet 16 during the 2015-2016 season with a roster that included current NBA All-Defensive First Team guard Alex Caruso, who now stars with Oklahoma City. Before joining Kennedy's staff, Cole was a standout Divison III head coach at Birmingham-Southern, winning the NCAA Division III Provisional Tournament championship during his final 2011 season. After a three-year head coaching sting at Berry University, Cole returned to Divison 1 to help McMillan build what would become one of the best teams in the Southern Conference. This is an excellent hire that provides familiarity with and proper execution of McMillan's game plan. This is new regarding several Samford players who have entered the transfer portal, and knowing Cole's excellent recruiting background, the next month should result in more good news for Texas A&M's new basketball era. Aggie fans react to Texas A&M's 12-6 Game 3 win over Elon after sweeping the series
No. 1 Texas A&M (3-0) finished off the 2025 season-opening series vs. Elon, sweeping the Phoenix in Game 3 12-6 after eight innings due to SEC rules for Sunday games. For first-year head coach Michael Earley, getting the season off to an undefeated start is key to evaluating the roster during the rest of nonconference play. Leading the way at the plate, junior outfielder Jace LaViolette hit his third home run of the weekend, giving the Aggies an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Offensively, Texas A&M's improvement on Saturday continued on Sunday, as short-stop Kaeden Kent his third career grand slam, while catcher Jacob Galloway hit his first homer as an Aggie. On the mound, Texas A&M's starting pitcher has been stellar outside of Justin Lamkin's shaky start on Saturday, and in his first career start with the program, Myles Patton shined, allowing four hits and one run with eight strikeouts in five innings. Out of the Bullpen, Ty Baker struggled in his first outing, allowing three runs off three hits, while Blayne Lyne, Peyton Smith, and Brad Rudis finished the game. All in all, going 3-0 to open the season was the goal leading into the first full week of nonconference play. Aggie fans & media react to Texas A&M' baseball's home win over Elon
Texas A&M pulled out a win in front of a packed crowd at Blue Bell Park to give Mike Earley his first victory as the Aggies head coach. The Elon All-American starting pitcher was able to frustrate the A&M hitters through the first five innings as he dueled with All-American Ryan Prager. Neither pitcher allowed any runs halfway through the game leaving Aggies fans on pins and needles while Elon fans' confidence grew inning by inning. The sixth inning is when we finally saw some action with Elon getting on the board first scoring two runs. A&M would answer in less than dramatic fashion. After back-to-back hits transfers Wyatt Henseler and Gavin Kash the Elon relief pitchers would three Aggies in a row make the very first score of the 2025 A&M season an RBI walk credited to Kaeden Kent. Then a wild pitch helped allow the Aggies their third run of the inning and the lead. The only other score of the game was a home run hit by first baseman Blake Binderup. Overall, it wasn't as ugly as the Texas A&M basketball game jerseys against Arkansas, but they did struggle to get some hits early. Their discipline at the plate was the major factor in them putting points on the board when they needed it most. As for the pitching, it's still early and pitching coach Jason Kelly might need to get a few more arms in rotation to evaluate see who he can depend on late in the season. Texas A&M basketball reveals new uniform ahead of Arkansas game
Texas A&M is on a roll right now and they have been finding ways to win while playing some ugly basketball. As they prepare for Arkansas the Aggie basketball X account dropped their newly designed uniforms from Adidas. There is a saying coined decades ago that goes, "If you look good, you feel good, so you play good." or something along those lines. Now, in reality it doesn't matter especially with a Buzz Williams run team. They could play games in a burlap sack and still have the same 19-5 record they have right now. Below you can view the post from the official social media account with Aggie defensive star Solomon Washington modeling the new threads. Empowerment through connection 🪡 #GigEm | @adidasHoops — Texas A&M Basketball (@aggiembk) February 14, 2025 Keeping my personal opinions aside the only thing the main focus for the team is getting a win on Saturday when they host Arkansas at Reed Arena at 11 am/CST. The game can be viewed on ESPN. Contact/Follow us @AggiesWire on X and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Texas A&M news, notes, and opinions.
