Correctional Service Canada (CSC) is investigating the death of an inmate at the Bowden Institution in central Alberta.
CSC announced the death of Gilbert Robinson, 69, on May 30, but didn't release details on how he died.
Robinson was convicted of second-degree murder in 2018 in the death of his estranged wife in his Edmonton home.
He was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 13 years.
The Bowden Institution is a medium-security prison in Innisfail.
Officials say Robinson's next of kin have been notified.
