Snoop Dogg performs ahead of B.C. Lions' home opener
Snoop Dogg was a B.C. Lions fan on Saturday — if only for one night. The legendary rapper donned a Lions jersey with the number 20 and his name emblazoned on the back as he took the stage for a concert at B.C. Place before the Lions hosted the Edmonton Elks in their first game of the CFL season. Over the course of a 35-minute set, Snoop Dogg sang several of his hits, including 'P.I.M.P.,' 'Gin and Juice,' and 'Drop it Like it's Hot,' plus abbreviated versions of songs he has featured on, such as Katy Perry's 'California Gurls' and the explicit version of Akon's 'I Wanna Love You.' Several hundred danced and sang in the end zone below the elevated stage, while thousands more stood in their seats. He has become a pop culture icon known for working with a variety of entertainers from rapper-producer Dr. Dre to television personality Martha Stewart, and was a roving correspondent for NBC at last summer's Paris Olympics. The 53-year-old musician closed his set Saturday by signing several footballs and handing them out to kids in the end zone. 'You've got to promise to grow up to be a B.C. Lion,' he said to one. Before leaving the stage, Snoop Dogg signed yet another football, removed his trademark sunglasses and the gold, bejewelled Wu-Tang Clan ring on his pinky, and handed off his gold microphone. He then launched the ball into the upper deck of the stands. He formed his hands into a heart and clapped for the crowd, then left before the game got underway. More info Rap icon Snoop Dogg has unveiled his plans to launch a pop-up burger joint at Celtic Park - aiming to serve up top-notch bacon cheeseburgers to the Hoops faithful. The hip-hop heavyweight and long-time Celtic supporter is keen to personally dish out the grub at Parkhead, telling the Sunday Mail: "There has always been the opinion that food at sports stadiums is never good but that ain't got to be the case." Snoop, who's also known for his culinary skills, expressed his desire to shake up stadium food. He said: "People know that Snoop is a cook and I would love to bring a pop up burger to a sports stadium to show fans that food at stadiums can be good." And he's set his sights on Celtic Park, saying: "It's got to be Celtic Park man, I mean where else am I going to bring it." The 'Gin and Juice' rapper shared his recipe for success. He said: "The secret to a good burger is the love in the preparation. The ground beef has got to be mixed with some secret spices, then add a good quality cheese and some maple cured bacon." Snoop is confident the Celtic crowd will be impressed, saying: "The Celtic fans are gonna love it, and to make sure they are just right, Snoop is going to be serving them himself." At 53, Snoop, whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jnr, has not only made waves in music but also in the food world, appearing on cooking shows with Martha Stewart and releasing his own cookbook, 'From Crook to Cook: Platinum Recipes from Tha Boss Dogg's Kitchen'. He's even considered teaming up with Rangers-supporting celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay for a restaurant venture, jokingly noting Ramsay's penchant for profanity, reports the Daily Record. He said: "I have told him I want to open a restaurant with him and maybe it might even be in Glasgow. "For real – we are always swapping cooking tips and I do mean swapping. It's not just one way traffic, I send him tips as well – he respects Snoop as chef. "My boy Gordon has got a worse mouth than me but that's only because of his passion. Am I going to bring my burgers to Rangers as well? Nah, I think we will give that a miss!". "I have told him I want to open a restaurant with him and maybe it might even be in Glasgow." Celtic Park is known for its innovative culinary offerings. In 2023, Smokey Trotters Kitchen, a popular street food eatery based in Glasgow's Barras Market, introduced Katsu Fries at the stadium - chips topped with salt and chilli chicken, cheese, curry sauce, crispy onions and coriander.
