Shoppers can get free $10 vouchers to spend like cash at Savage Mill businesses this summer

As a small business owner, Leslie Alacbay is looking forward to seeing how the Savage Mill Bucks program will benefit her boutique and other shops. Her business, jules + kate, sells handmade items, strategically curated by Alacbay. It's one of more than 70 businesses at Savage Mill, participating in Howard County's rollout of Savage Mill Bucks, an incentive program meant to increase traffic to the shopping center. Howard County has invested $10,000 in the Savage Mill Bucks program and will give 1,000 vouchers worth $10 to spend at participating businesses. The vouchers work like cash at the shops. The program was modeled after the successful Old Ellicott City Bucks program in 2018. County officials found that for every $10 business voucher offered, visitors spent more than $20 of their own money. The return on investment creates a significant economic impact on small businesses during the summer, which can be a slower time of year for retail businesses, according to a county news release. Only one voucher is allowed per person per purchase. Visitors can pick up the vouchers at the visitor center in Ellicott City or Artcraft in Savage Mill. Alacbay said she already sees an impact from the quarterly 'Girls Night Out' events hosted by Savage Mill. Participants are given a $5 voucher; on a single night, she's collected between $200 to $300. The summer-long program will make a difference financially, she said . Alacbay has been at Savage Mill for four years, moving locations twice before landing in her current location, tucked away in the farthest part of the New Weave building next to Artcraft. Jane Wilson, owner of Donia Collection, a handmade bag kiosk, says the vouchers are an opportunity for growth. Wilson established her business in the space in mid-March; she shares the space with four other women who each take a day of the week to sell their products. 'Savage Mill has given me the visibility I needed,' she said. The $10 vouchers will give more people the opportunity to pick up a bag, Wilson said. The added discount increases business by making things more affordable and 'within budget' for many customers, according to Candles by Candy manager Keilana Miller. '$10 is a big difference for a candle,' Miller said. 'Our highest candle in here is $30, but most of them are $20. So if you're paying $10 for an 8-ounce candle, I feel like people will buy that more… I think it'll have a very positive effect.' In addition to candles, the business offers candle-making classes. Miller says Savage Mill Bucks may increase the popularity of adult classes. The vouchers will give visitors another reason to 'come and shop' at Savage Mill, she added. Have a news tip? Taylor Swift splashes out eye-watering sum on revenge look to dine with BFF Selena Gomez after buying masters

Taylor Swift looked dressed for revenge in a stunning head-to-toe Gucci ensemble after finally gaining ownership of the master recordings of her first six albums. While celebrating the end of her very long and public battle to own her music, the pop star, 35, emerged for a rare girls' night out with her longtime friend Selena Gomez. For the occasion, the Lover hitmaker rocked a black and silver tank top complete with a sequined trim and matching miniskirt, which showcased her toned legs. The 14-time Grammy winner paired her timeless look with a pair of silver metallic platform sandals ($1,190) and Gucci Bamboo 1947 mini bag, which retails for $4,700. Swift's accessories included her custom $6,875 diamond friendship bracelet from her boyfriend Travis Kelce and $3,490 ring from Shahla Karimi Jewelry. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. The most expensive and dazzling part of her outfit was her $36,000 Arpeggia One Line earrings, which brought up the total of her look to over $55,000. Meanwhile, Gomez, 32, turned heads in a khaki suit with a plunging brown halter top and a sharp blazer tied over her shoulders. The pals were enjoying a girls' night out at The Monkey Bar in New York City, known for its $36 ice-cold martinis, Crab Rangoon, dry-aged New York strip and truffle monkey bread. Although it is unknown who picked up the check at dinner, Gomez may have put her card down as Swift just splashed out around $360 million to purchase the rest of her music catalog. On Friday, the Cats actress revealed that she struck a settlement with private equity firm Shamrock Capital, which purchased the rights to the records from music mogul Scooter Braun in November 2020. In a hand-written letter posted on her website, Swift, who is worth over $1 billion, claims the money she made from her lucrative Eras tour last year has helped bankroll the purchase of her old material and 'her entire life's work'. She said: 'All I've ever wanted was the opportunity to work hard enough to be able to one day purchase my music outright with no strings attached, no partnership, with full autonomy. ' Swift then thanked Shamrock Capital for their 'honest, fair and respectful' way they handled the deal, adding: 'I really felt like they saw it for what it was to me: My memories and my sweat and my handwriting and my decades of dreams.' She then joked: 'My first tattoo might just be a huge shamrock in the middle of my forehead.' Justin Bieber's old manager Scooter controversially acquired the rights to Taylor's material for S300million after buying her old record label, Big Machine Media, in 2019 before selling them on to Shamrock Capital for profit. The Love Story singer, who branded Scooter a 'bully' for tactics, was unaware of his plan and also claimed when she previously approached Big Machine label head Scott Borchetta about buying her masters beforehand, he allegedly would only sell her them one at a time, starting from her earliest, least-profitable recordings. In exchange for the option to buy the masters back, Taylor claimed she would have to record a new album for the label in exchange for each old recording she bought, shackling her to Big Machine for years to come just when she was eager to leave the label. The singer posted an emotional Tumblr telling fans she made the 'excruciating choice to leave behind my past. 'Music I wrote on my bedroom floor and videos I dreamed up and paid for from the money I earned playing in bars, then clubs, then arenas, then stadiums.' She added: 'Never in my worst nightmares did I imagine the buyer would be Scooter. 'Any time Scott Borchetta has heard the words 'Scooter Braun' escape my lips, it was when I was either crying or trying not to. 'He knew what he was doing; they both did. Controlling a woman who didn't want to be associated with them. In perpetuity. That means forever.' She added that when she heard the news: 'All I could think about was the incessant, manipulative bullying I've received at his hands for years.' Swift then listed a string of examples accusing Kim Kardashian and Kanye West – then Braun's client – of bullying. Shamrock acquired the master recordings to Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989 and Reputation – which Taylor has now regained ownership of, having previously led a campaign to re-record her first six albums, four of which she's successfully completed. Reputation (Taylor's Version) was heavily tipped to be her next release and the singer addressed the rumors in her open letter, saying it's the 'one album I thought couldn't be improved upon by redoing it' but teased she may still record another version, as well as offer up 'unreleased Vault tracks' from that album. Taylor says she has re-recorded the entirety of her debut self-titled album which, like Reputation, will 're-emerge when the time is right.' Music sources had previously claimed Scooter played a role in helping Taylor and Shamrock Capital agree a deal for the buy-back, in a bid to claim much-needed positive PR in wake of her career imploding following his feud with the singer. In a hand-written letter posted on her website, Swift, who is worth over $1 billion, claims the money she made from her lucrative Eras tour last year has helped bankroll the purchase of her old material and 'her entire life's work' Swift then thanked Shamrock Capital for their 'honest, fair and respectful' way they handled the deal, adding: 'I really felt like they saw it for what it was to me: My memories and my sweat and my handwriting and my decades of dreams' But according to sources close to the contract negotiations, he played zero part. An insider told MailOnline: 'Contrary to a previous false report, there was no outside party who 'encouraged' this sale. 'All rightful credit for this opportunity should go to the partners at Shamrock Capital and Taylor's Nashville-based management team only. Taylor now owns all of her music, and this moment finally happened in spite of Scooter Braun, not because of him.'

Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez Nail Uptown Style in New York

Girls night out! This weekend in New York City, famous friends Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez linked up to have dinner together at Monkey Bar. (A chic choice, if we say so ourselves.) Instead of hitting up some of Swift's favorite downtown hotspots like Via Carota or The Corner Store, the duo headed uptown for a more old-school glamorous vibe. And, naturally, they had the fashions to match: They totally perfected the art of an Upper East Side outfit. You know the kind of uptown wardrobe we're talking about here: That monied, quietly-luxurious style that you've seen Lily Van der Woodsen wear on Gossip Girl. Swift and Gomez embodied the Upper East Side look by choosing pieces that were classic and timeless—and expensive looking. Swift wore a black crepe Gucci two-piece set, including a tank and skirt with sequined trim. She paired it with metallic platforms for more of a going-out feel. Gomez, meanwhile, leaned into neutrals with a tonal look: The Only Murders in the Building star wore a khaki suit with a brown halter top, her blazer slung over her shoulder like a true boss.

Wynonna Judd Admits Late Mom Naomi Was ‘Very Hard' on Her About Weight

During Lifetime's two-night docuseries The Judd Family: Truth Be Told, opened up about her complex relationship with her mother and musical partner, Naomi Judd. Naomi Judd died by suicide on April 30, 2022, at her farmhouse in Leiper's Fork, Tennessee. She was 76 years old at the time. Wynonna, 60, and Naomi, were a mother-daughter musical duo formed in the early '80s. Known for major hits like 'Why Not Me,' 'Girls Night Out,' and 'Love Can Build a Bridge,' the pair went on to experience undeniable success—and they had the accolades to show for it. The Judds earned five Grammy Awards, nine CMA Awards, and eight ACM Awards during their time together. Moreover, the Judds were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame following Naomi's death, although they were originally scheduled to be inducted on the day she passed. Even so, Naomi and Wynonna's dynamic wasn't always the easiest to navigate. 'I think Naomi was scared to death that we were not going to keep her as part of this duo,' Woody Bowles, who handled PR for the Judds, said in the docuseries. 'Naomi was searching for any way she could contribute to the show,' including 'by being pretty,' producer Don Potter added. According to Bowles, Naomi wanted her Wynonna to have 'the WASP waist' and to 'look as much like her as she could.' Related: In Wynonna's own words, she reflected, '[My mom] was 36 years old, she was ready to be [on] fire. As the kids would say today, she had drip. She was foxy. But then, I was so aggravated by her sexuality.' The 'No One Else On Earth' artist recalled, 'Mom was very hard on me. She was terrified of losing me, of course, but she never would say it that way,' she said. 'It was always, 'Well, if you lost 20 pounds, you could be a pop star.'' Bowles explained that their rift over Wynonna's weight led to a lot of conflict. 'I think Naomi felt like Wynonna's weight reflected badly on her as a mother,' he revealed. 'The two of them would lock themselves in the back of the bus, screaming and yelling. Several times, we had to cancel shows, because Wynonna had stripped her voice.' If you or someone you know is contemplating suicide or struggling with suicidal thoughts, help is available 24 hours a day through the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.
