Meet Love Island Scot Alima Gagigo who is hoping for romance in the Majorcan villa this summer

Love Island is back for its 12th season next week and one Scottish singleton is hoping to find love in the sun this summer Scotland's very own Alima Gagigo is hoping to find love on this year's season of Love Island. The 23-year-old graduate hails from Glasgow and is swapping the rain for the Majorcan sun this summer as she heads into the world's most famous villa in a bid to find romance. The lineup for the 2025 Love Island cast was revealed earlier today (Tuesday), and Alima hopes to follow in the footsteps of the likes of gym boss Anton Danyluk, radio host Laura Anderson and singer Paige Turley, Scots who have all appeared on the ITV show throughout the years and captured the hearts of viewers. ‌ Self-proclaimed flirt Alima will be entering the villa this year in the hopes of finding her very own Prince Charming. ‌ The islander describes herself as a "good flirt" and reveals she has a go-to tactic when chatting up guys in clubs and bars across Glasgow, which she hopes will translate to the villa. She revealed, showing off her typical Scots sense of humour: "I always ask guys on a night out to guess which country I'm originally from. If they get it right, they can get my number. "But they never guess correctly so it works really well if you don't want to give a guy your number." Alima was bred in Glasgow and born in West Africa, as she went on: "I'm originally from Guinea Bissau. If they're close and I really fancy them, I'll give them my number anyway." The Scottish beauty revealed she likes "a tall man with a handsome face" and said her type on paper tends to be "Disney Prince". ‌ She went on: "You know when you just look at a guy and they have that Disney prince look to them? That's it." Singleton Alima has brains as well as beauty, as she studied at Glasgow Caledonian University from 2019, graduating with a BA Honours in International Business in July 2023. ‌ When she was studying she worked at Quiz, the high-street fashion retailer which was founded in Glasgow, as a store assistant. Since graduating, she's been working as a wealth management client services executive. Outside of her professional life, Alima boosts over 6.5k followers on Instagram - a number which will no doubt grow after her stint on the show. On her Instagram page, she shares snaps from all across the world, having posted photos from holidays in Malta, Lisbon, Mykonos, Paris, Ibiza and Morocco. She enjoys a glamorous lifestyle and is no stranger to a bikini, living it up on holiday as she has previously posted a photo of herself at Wayne Lineker's famous Ocean Beach Club in Ibiza - as well as other beach clubs in Marbella and Mykonos. And Alima must have made an impression on the Ibiza club owner, as Wayne also follows her on Instagram. ‌ She will be joining 11 other new singletons hoping to find love this summer. Let's hope Alima will be able to find her Prince Charming in the six boys hoping to make an impression - taxi driver Ben, gardener Tommy, personal trainer Dejon, water operative Kyle, construction project manager Blu and semi-professional footballer Harry. The five other girls on the OG lineup also include motivational speaker Sophie, payroll specialist Meg, cabin crew Helena, musical theatre performer Megan and marketing executive Shakira. You can take a look at the full lineup here. Love Island returns to ITV2 on Monday, June 9 at 9pm.

Brother of woman killed by speeding driver reveals family's 'devastation'

The brother of a nursing student killed by a speeding driver in Glasgow has spoken of the family's 'devastation' and how the tragedy will always 'remain in our hearts and minds'. Chinenye Okonkwo died after being hit by an Audi A4 that mounted the pavement as she waited to cross a road in Glasgow city centre in February 2023. The 33-year-old, who was studying Public Health at Glasgow Caledonian University, was crushed between railings and the front of the car. The driver, Akbar Razaq, who was going at double the 30mph speed limit, was jailed for more than three years last week. Speaking to STV News, Chinenye's brother, Henry, revealed how the incident impacted their family. He said, 'Her dreams being cut short by this unfortunate incident will always remain in our hearts and minds because she truly had a very big dream. Being a nurse, getting a house, and getting that degree was something that she wanted at all costs. 'When you see a young girl with such dreams, you need to support her and help her achieve them, but unfortunately, this happened.' Nigerian-born Chinenye had moved to the UK in 2022 to study in Glasgow, and had recently started a part-time job at a nursing home in the city's east end. She was walking on her way to start a shift when she was hit in the fatal crash. Henry continued: 'We were so happy with her achievements in such a short time, then not even two months later, we lost her. 'It broke my parents, my mum fell ill, my dad, who is in his 70s, also fell ill, and he was so weak. When this news broke to them, they just broke down; everyone was devastated. 'All we could do was try to keep ourselves strong.' Razaq was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow on Thursday having earlier admitted to a charge of causing death by dangerous driving. Lord Mulholland jailed him for three years and four months and banned him from the road for eight years and two months. Henry believes his sister got the justice she deserved as the family now begin a healing process. He said: 'After the hearing, I spoke with my parents and told them the outcome, and I explained it to them, which was really emotional. 'I believe that we have given Chinenye the justice that she deserved. 'Families don't want to remember certain things for a long time, they just want to move away from it and get better, so there is a long way to go but I do believe we can get better.' Scottish Highlands plots ‘campervan tax' amid huge rise in visitors

Campervan drivers face paying a tourist tax to drive through the Scottish Highlands because the roads 'cannot cope' with the number of visitors. Tensions have risen in recent years between locals and campervan drivers following a surge in motorhome tourists, with accusations they are clogging up roads and illegally dumping waste. The number of visitors to the Highlands has risen by 65pc since 2012 with nearly 36,000 campervans touring the region in 2022, according to the local council. The increase is in part down to the construction of the North Coast 500, a scenic 500-mile route around the north coast dubbed 'Scotland's Route 66', which has attracted tourists from around the world and led to a rise in visitors renting campervans to complete the drive. A study by Glasgow Caledonian University found the route, which was launched in 2015, has boosted the local economy by £22m a year, creating about 200 full-time jobs. However, Labour and SNP politicians are calling for campervan drivers to pay a levy to visit the area with some suggesting the council install cameras to track the registration plates of drivers to make sure they pay. Shaun Fraser, who is standing to be Labour MSP for Inverness and Nairn, said: 'Initiatives such as the North Coast 500 have transformed the dynamics of Highland tourism, with a huge rise in campervans using rural single–track highland roads. Our roads cannot cope with this. It is a mixed blessing. 'Highland communities and local services must benefit from tourism. I support a fair and well-designed visitor levy and sensible measures to manage the impact of campervans. 'I would be open to looking at options attached to campervans, including number plate recognition to charge visiting campervans using highland roads. I think that this should be considered.' It comes after Highland Council introduced a voluntary scheme last year whereby campervan visitors could pay £40 for a seven-day pass to park in some of the local authority's car parks with daily access to showering facilities. The initiative was shunned by tourists with the council forecast to raise £20,000 from the initiative in its first year despite setting a target of £500,000. Emma Roddick, of the SNP, has called for campervan visitors to be included as part of a wider tourist tax being considered by the council. The Highlands MSP said it was 'fair' that campervan drivers contributed to the 'preservation and maintenance of the areas they enjoy so much'. Highlands Council is currently reviewing whether to impose a 5pc charge on overnight accommodation such as hotels, B&Bs and holiday lets that it suggests would raise £10m a year, increasing further if campervans were included. The proposal has been met with fierce opposition from local business groups who fear the tax would put the area at a disadvantage to the rest of the UK and detract visitors. If approved, the levy could come into force by the end of next year, the earliest permitted under legislation passed by the Scottish government last year.
