Festival fans demand refunds after headliner's set slashed over weather delay

Many Governors Ball attendees are asking for refunds after one headliner's set was shortened and several acts were nixed over a weather delay. The music festival pushed back doors until 4:30 p.m. — instead of the typical noon — on Saturday, June 7 when the New York area received a storm. 'Please delay your arrival and plan accordingly,' Gov Ball advised concertgoers on X. Just over an hour later, the festival posted an updated schedule for Saturday. The new schedule had removed scheduled performances by School of Rock NYC, Glasshouse, Monobloc, Die Spitz, The Backfires, Lexa Gates and Yaya Bey. The updated schedule included a shorter version of headliner Olivia Rodrigo's set at the end of the night. The pop star was originally supposed to go on at 8:30 p.m. and play until roughly 10 p.m. However, the weather caused Rodrigo's set to be delayed until 9:25 p.m. While Gov Ball did not directly indicate when Rodrigo's set would end, it appeared to have been scheduled past 10 p.m. Billboard reported her set wrapped up a couple minutes after 10:30 p.m. After losing about 30 minutes of Rodrigo's set, disappointed fans called on Gov Ball to issue refunds. 'I better get my refund because cancelling other performers and shortening sets is just irresponsible,' one X user wrote. 'We deserve at least a partial refund this is insane it's not even raining,' another X user wrote. 'Thank you but we still deserve some kind of compensation for this,' an Instagram user wrote, adding the festival's communication 'has been incredibly unprofessional.' Gov Ball has not publicly addressed the situation. This isn't the first time weather caused issues for the annual festival. Gov Ball issued refunds in 2019 after rain also caused mayhem on the festival grounds, The Mirror reported. It is a beautiful sunny evening when we visit Cromlix, the five-star luxury hotel in Dunblane that is owned by Andy and Kim Murray. Before dinner in The Glasshouse, we have a refreshing gin cocktail in the garden. It's the kind of evening where a location - and grounds - such as this come into its own. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The colourful array of potted tulips, bobbing in the breeze as the sun sets, showcases more than just decoration. They are part of a wider sustainability drive to use only home-grown flowers in the hotel. Head gardener Kathy Beckett is also working closely on the kitchen garden with new executive head chef James Mearing, who moved to Scotland from his role as executive chef at the three AA Rosette Summer Lodge Country House Hotel and Restaurant in Evershot, Dorset. Cromlix exterior | Contributed These culinary and horticultural changes are the seasoning to another huge change that is coming to Cromlix. The team submitted plans in October last year for a new restaurant and kitchen and three new bedrooms, with the proposal now approved. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad This means that a new 80-cover restaurant will replace the hotel's existing dining space, The Glasshouse, and will be an extension to the existing footprint of the Victorian mansion, sitting in a new location overlooking the hotel's extensive back lawn. The Glasshouse will remain a dining space, but will be used mainly for afternoon teas and private events. A new fine dining restaurant space is also in the pipeline where the garden room private dining space is. General manager Barry Makin explained this new space, saying: 'There will be 16 covers and we can really push the boat out and let the chef loose, if you like, with his artistic culinary skills.' Cromlix Afternoon Tea | Contributed Three new ground-floor bedrooms will also be created within the main building, converting kitchen space into an accessible suite and two cottage rooms. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad An additional bedroom is also being added onto the first floor, meaning that in total the main house will go from 15 bedrooms to 19, with a further bedroom in the Gate Lodge. All of this comes after an extensive refurbishment in 2023, a project overseen by Kim Murray, which saw the renovation of all of the bedrooms and bathrooms, the creation of a new bar area and entrance, and the upgrading of the restaurant and all other common areas of the hotel. The new Cromlix restaurant render | contributed The refurbishment has led to the hotel winning AA Scottish Hotel of the Year, Independent Hotel of the Year and Chef of the Year at the Scottish Excellence Awards. Earlier this month Cromlix was awarded best boutique hotel and best historic hotel at the 'Hotel Oscars', the Innis and Gunn Prestige Hotel Awards. The venue was also awarded a Michelin Key in late 2024 , one of 15 Scottish hotels to receive the new accolade and one the team hope may entice Michelin Star inspectors to their new restaurant. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Mr Makin said: 'We're very much on Michelin's radar [after having been awarded a Michelin Key] and they'll be coming every year to inspect us. When we have this restaurant [The Glasshouse], which is all things to all men. It's very hard to get the level and consistency to deliver the Michelin experience. 'But not everyone wants that when they come here, so we kind of have to be a bit of a hybrid at the moment. But what we will have is the [new] larger restaurant, which will be more relaxed. But if you really want to come for a fine-dining experience, then the 16-seat restaurant is more at that level. 'Our aspiration is to have Michelin-standard food without question. That is why we are putting on the fine dining restaurant. 'The space works well at the moment as a private dining space, so for us to take that away four days a week, and put in a fine dining restaurant, we have to make sure that it's special - four rosettes, Michelin-standard special. I'd like to think we can achieve four rosettes in that space [given the restaurant has 3 AA rosettes at the moment].' Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad As for what will be on the menu? Anyone who has visited Cromlix for dinner will know there is a seasonal tasting menu and a la carte offering. Mr Mearing is putting his stamp on things with dishes such as salt aged St Bride's duck, cured Mowi Scottish salmon and duo of rabbit, with vegetarian options available. But when it comes to the new fine dining offering, Mr Mearing said he wants to 'really strike a difference'. He said: 'There will be whole new concepts as well as menus. If guests are staying with us for multiple nights, we really want them to have different dining experiences each night. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'Our ambition is to really capture the connection between the estate , the garden and the kitchen. The big thing for me in my cooking is trying to be ultra seasonal and local and you can't get any more local than what's been grown and foraged from the garden.'

Chelsea garden to bring nature into prison for female offenders

A garden to be showcased at the Chelsea Flower Show will be relocated to HMP Downview to aid the rehabilitation of female offenders. Jo Thompson, who worked with female ex-offenders assisted by the Glasshouse, a rehabilitation not-for-profit centred around horticulture, said the garden is designed to be 'safe and private' and give a green space to women who are often 'deprived' of nature. The garden will be unveiled at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show on May 19 and then re-created at HMP Downview, a women-only prison in Surrey, as soon as the show finishes. The final design cost £1 million and was funded by Project Giving Back, a charity that supports gardens for good causes at Chelsea Flower Show. Thompson said she changed her approach to the garden after meeting with the women in prison who worked on the project. 'It's easy to have preconceptions about people in prison,' she said. 'I tore up my notes, started again and instead I focused on what [the women] had said about privacy. 'Shining a torch in your face at four o'clock in the morning, or constant noise all night … I realised that they needed to have somewhere private. They needed to have somewhere that felt beautiful, because they were deprived of any link with nature at all, and somewhere where they could garden if they wanted to.' • Garden design: seven golden rules for your patch The design took approximately two years to complete, and female offenders are expected to be able to access the garden from July this year. The Glasshouse, which worked with Thompson on the project, is a social enterprise that trains women to grow house plants, which are sold online and also installed and maintained in corporate offices. The Times Crime and Justice Commission, which published its final report last month, recommended better provision of rehabilitation initiatives like the training and work opportunities provided by the Glasshouse. Kali Hamerton-Stove, co-founder of the Glasshouse, said that the garden symbolised 'a real push' towards rehabilitation among the public. 'I think people are starting to see there needs to be a change in the way that we address [the prison] population,' she said. 'And so it's so exciting for us to be a part of that and for the women that we work with to get to be a part of that. 'When you speak with the women we work with, almost all of them will talk about a lack of access to nature and lack of access to fulfilling activity when they're in prison. A lot of them don't realise it until they're with us, but when their hands are in soil, they feel calmer, more productive and happier.' • Ann Treneman: What I've learnt about gardens — 27 facts about plants 'Nature and growing is incredibly powerful. Gardening has the potential to help people have better lives, and that can cut reoffending.' Amy Dixon, governor of both HMP Downview and HMP East Sutton Park, said: 'The Glasshouse garden will make a massive impact for the women in custody at HMP & YOI [Young Offender Institution] Downview, and for our hardworking staff. 'Women preparing for release will have regular access to the garden for planning their future and meeting their resettlement team, as well as training and support. This special garden will provide inspiration and hope for women in an anxious and overwhelming time.'
