BMC's efforts in vain, street encroachment still an issue

Bhopal: Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) has strengthened its drive against unauthorised occupancy in 2025, conducting 97 enforcement operations, as per BMC records. These administrative actions, focused on reclaiming public spaces and urban improvement, have received varied feedback from local residents. Unauthorised shops and stalls occupying commercial areas, footpaths and streets are causing movement restrictions and traffic congestion, forcing people to walk on roadways. On May 25, BMC initiated removal operations targeting unlicensed vendors and structures across many areas to ensure pedestrian accessibility. Despite initial success in improving movement, vendors returned within days, highlighting enforcement challenges. A subsequent clearing exercise on May 27 at Jawahar Chowk and Link Road successfully opened up roads, though displaced vendors simply moved to nearby locations, redistributing the problem. The clearance of unauthorised structures has been essential for development initiatives. BMC cleared 20 locations before the Global Investors Summit, including areas near Halalpur Bus Stand and visitor accommodation facilities, to ensure proper presentation. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2 ingredientes para remover as manchas na pele Conselhos E Truques Undo However, residential areas received limited attention, with spots like Bairagarh and Kolar Market still experiencing unauthorised occupation issues. With monsoon approaching, illegal structures blocking drainage systems remain problematic. In Karond Mandi and Bhanpur , temporary constructions block water channels, increasing flood risks. While BMC has removed some illegal platforms in these locations, incomplete clearance could lead to waterlogging during heavy rains. GFX ENCROACHMENT OPERATIONS: A TEMPORARY FIX? May 25: Civic Body's Action Against Illegal Structures BMC conducted operations to clear unauthorised stalls, tables and structures from Karond, Aman Colony, Badwai and Bairagarh. The initiative focused on freeing up footpaths blocked by vendors. The effectiveness remained short-lived as vendors soon reoccupied the spaces. May 27: Traffic Management Through Encroachment Removal Authorities launched a clearing operation at Jawahar Chowk and Link Road to address illegal occupation of roads and pavements. Various items including carts, counters and boards that were hindering public access were seized. Despite this, the vendors relocated to adjacent areas, merely redistributing the congestion. GIS Preparations and Urban Clearance During GIS preparation, BMC undertook clearance drives across 20 city locations, particularly near Halalpur Bus Stand and designated summit accommodation. Monsoon Readiness & Drainage Issues Localities including Karond Mandi and Bhanpur Pragati Nagar face challenges with clogged drainage networks, increasing flood risks during monsoons.
