3 men guilty in daylight shooting that left 12-year-old boy dead
Three men were found guilty of first-degree murder and attempted murder in connection with a deadly North York shooting in 2020 that claimed the life of a 12-year-old boy and injured three others. On Saturday, the jury returned for the fifth day of deliberations and found Rashawn Chambers, Jahwayne Smart and Cjay Hobbs guilty of killing Dante Sebastian Andreatta, CBC News reported. Andreatta was walking home with his mom on Nov. 7, 2020 when he was struck by a stray bullet during the shooting, which involved two vehicles in an apartment parking lot near Jane St. and Stong Court. The shooting started when two occupants of a stolen Honda Accord exited the vehicle and fired at another vehicle in the parking lot of 25 Stong Ct., according to an agreed upon statement of facts, which Crown prosecutors finished presenting to a jury when the trial opened in April 2025. MANDEL: Shooting survivor testifies 'all hell broke loose,' stray bullet killed innocent child WARMINGTON: Dante's organs saved 9 kids after his life was stolen Three people in the other vehicle were hurt, including one who was shot four times but survived. Two other occupants of the second vehicle were not struck by gunfire, the statement of facts said. They told jury members that they were there that afternoon to make a drug deal. Both approached the teens in the car to ask if one of them was the buyer. Chambers and Smart testified that they started shooting after they saw one of the teenagers pointing a gun out the window, CBC reported. The Crown had argued they were lying about the teens having a gun and there was no planned drug deal, saying the trio of men went to the area with a plan to shoot the teenagers inside the car. Thirty-six bullets were unleashed from two guns aimed at a fleeing car in the brazen daylight shooting. Four days later, on Remembrance Day at Sick Kids, the boy died of a single perforating gunshot wound to his neck. Chambers and Smart were carrying Glock 19 handguns when they were arrested.

'Nobody's perfect': Billy Napier comments on Florida football CB's arrest in May
Florida football head coach Billy Napier broke his silence Wednesday on the status of junior cornerback Dijon Johnson, who was arrested May 2 in Tampa on multiple charges, including two felonies. Speaking at the SEC's annual spring meetings, Napier confirmed Johnson remains with the Gators and is currently enrolled in summer classes while working out with the team. Advertisement "We'll handle all the discipline internally," Napier said on Wednesday at the SEC Spring Meetings, according to the Orlando Sentinel. "We're gonna let things take their course. We started some of that process with (Johnson) in-house already. He's back in summer school and working with our team." Johnson, 21, was arrested by the Tampa Police Department late on May 2 and booked in Hillsborough County during the early hours of May 3. Johnson faces multiple charges, including possession of a controlled substance (third-degree felony), possession of a firearm during commission of a felony (second-degree felony), misdemeanor possession of cannabis under 20 grams and resisting an officer without violence (misdemeanor). He was released on an $8,500 bond the following day. The arrest affidavit, obtained by Swamp247, details that Johnson was pulled over for a minor traffic infraction and became argumentative with officers. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of marijuana and synthetic marijuana in a backpack containing his passport, as well as a loaded Glock 19 handgun. Advertisement Despite initial claims that the substance was creatine from the football facility, field tests at the scene tested positive for illegal substances. Court records show Johnson filed written pleas of not guilty on all charges and waived his appearance at arraignment. Napier said he hopes the situation serves as a "teachable moment" for the entire team. "You represent your family, you represent your institution as a whole and then I think the program in general," Napier stated. "And that specific group of players as a team that we've worked hard to create. So over time, we're hopeful that a lot of these things that we talk about stick." Advertisement Johnson appeared in all 13 games for Florida in 2024, making five starts and finishing with 27 total tackles, two pass breakups and two tackles for loss. He earned a starting role midway through the season and was a key part of the secondary despite battling an upper-body injury late in the year. Napier acknowledged that while mistakes happen, the program's culture and evaluation processes are designed to address such challenges. "But nobody's perfect, and they love football and I think that creates opportunities to teach a lot in terms of how to be someone that's respected, and to be accountable," Napier said. "... But in general, you've got to pick the right ones too, that's part of it. Recruiting, evaluating, it's all part of the program." Convicted felon arrested in Naperville on charges he was driving 4 loaded guns
A convicted felon has been charged with unlawful gun possession after Naperville police found several loaded firearms in his car, including one with a 50-round drum magazine and another converted into an automatic weapon, officials said. Marcus Carroll, 30, of Calumet City, was pulled over on a traffic stop about 2 a.m. Saturday at Aurora Avenue and South Route 59 after police spotted a handgun inside his car while it had been parked, a news release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office and Naperville Police Department said. Officers recovered the Glock 43 9mm gun with a 50-round drum magazine they'd initially seen on the floorboard behind the front passenger seat. The weapon had been moved to beneath the driver's seat, where it was 'uncased, loaded and immediately accessible,' the release said. During a search of the vehicle, police also found a backpack containing a Glock 23 .40-caliber gun with a switch rendering it fully automatic, a Springfield Hellcat 9mm gun and a Glock 19 9mm gun. All four weapons were loaded with one round in the chamber, the release said. Carroll was charged with one count each of unlawful possession of a weapon by a repeat felony offender, a class X felony, and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, a class 2 felony. DuPage County Associate Judge Christine Cody granted the prosecution's motion that Carroll be held at the county jail pending trial, the release said. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 23. 'With a history of multiple felony convictions, including armed robbery with a firearm and vehicular hijacking, Mr. Carroll is legally prohibited from possessing a firearm,' State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement. 'The allegation that he was in possession of four loaded weapons, one with a 50-round drum and another that had been modified to allow it to fire fully automatic, are extremely troubling,' he said.
