Gun, drugs found after high-speed chase in Pennsylvania, troopers said

SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — A Johnstown man is facing felony charges after allegedly leading Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) on a high-speed chase. Jaiel Anthony, 24, was arrested after a silver BMW drove past troopers at a high rate of speed. Police noted that the driver of the BMW, allegedly Anthony, began driving at fluctuating speeds on South Route 219. When troopers ran the registration on the vehicle, it came back as a 'dead tag,' meaning that it was expired, according to the criminal complaint. Police then attempted to pull Anthony over, but were unsuccessful as he allegedly began driving between 100-130 miles per hour. During the chase, Anthony allegedly got off 219, failing to stop or yield at the intersection of the off-ramp, according to the affidavit. The chase continued through Richland and down Scalp Avenue at what Troopers noted to be a 'high rate of speed.' Troopers were able to make contact with Anthony, where he allegedly began reaching for something inside the vehicle. Police were able to stop him from reaching for anything and detained him on scene at his vehicle. Inside the vehicle, troopers found the following items: Glock 29 10mm handgun outfitted with a 'Glock Switch' Glock magazines loaded with 10mm and 9mm bullets $887 USD Loose 10mm bullets Magazine extender for the Glock One plastic baggie containing 28 grams of marijuana One plastic baggie containing 40 grams of marijuana Clear plastic baggie containing 8.3 grams of white powder Plastic baggie containing 16 white unidentified pills and one larger white pill A 'Glock Switch' is a type of 'auto sear' that is specifically designed for a Glock pistol. They attach to the back of the handgun's slide and interfere with the internal trigger to allow for fully automatic firing. The switch holds the trigger bar down, allowing for the weapon to have a high rate of fire, at roughly 1,2000 rounds per minute. Anthony is now facing felony charges of possession of a firearm prohibited, firearms not to be carried without a license, fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, along with related drug and driving charges. He is in the Somerset County Prison after being unable to post his $100,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 2. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
