Two-day organic mango mela begins in Visakhapatnam
A two-day organic mango mela, organised by Goadharitha Prakruthi Vyavasayadharla Cooperative Society, began at BVK College in Visalakshi Nagar here on Saturday. Agricultural scientist Kongara Ramesh along with the society president P.L.M. Raju inaugurated the mela.
Speaking on the occasion, national leader of the society Jalagam Kumara Swamy said that the organic mango mela will provide a unique experience for the citizens of Visakhapatnam.
He said that rare varieties of mangoes, that were grown organically, are available at the stalls. Some of the mango varieties available at the festival include Panchadara Kalasa, Panduri Mango, Kothapalli Kobbari, Swagatham, Amrutham, Nagulapalli Rasalu, Haider Saibu, Jahangir, Pedda Rasalu, Chinna Rasalu, Banaganapalli, Suvarna Rekha, Kobbari Antu, Muntha Mamidi, Sannakulu, Dondakaya, Imam Pasand among others.
He said that the festival would continue on the weekends in the coming weeks. The organisers of the mela have urged the visitors to bring their own cloth or jute bags.
Former MLC P.V.N. Madhav enquired about the mango varieties on display. He said that such events should be organised regularly to showcase the diverse range of mangoes grown in the North Andhra region.
