‘Wicked: For Good': Everything to know about the musical conclusion

The trailer for Wicked: For Good just debuted, offering the first look at footage from the highly anticipated conclusion to the musical adaptation. And there is plenty to discuss. More from GoldDerby Queens vs. schemes: Inside unscripted's Emmy battle royale Jay Duplass on exposing his 'dad bod' and playing a 'soft villain' in 'Dying for Sex': 'Easily one of my biggest acting challenges' 5 slots isn't enough: More limited series deserve a chance to compete with 'Adolescence' With a little under five months to go, the wait for Wicked: For Good may have never seemed less tolerable. So with the hopes of easing those eagerly awaiting the return to Oz, here's everything to know about For Good. The trailer offered the first listens of two songs from the stage musical as sung by stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. "No Good Deed" plays under glimpses at Elphaba's life in exile, while the climatic, heartbreaking "For Good" scores more tender moments between her and Glinda. Composer Stephen Schwartz announced years ago that he was writing two entirely new songs for the film adaptations—one for each of the heroines—both of which will appear in For Good. Erivo has spoken publicly about worked with Schwartz on Elphaba's song, while Grande told Variety about how her new tune fits into the narrative. It's a pivotal moment in Glinda's journey," Grande said. "It shows a side of her we've never seen before. In the stage show, this transformation happens offstage. But in the movie, we get to see her make the decision that defines who she is. It's a privilege to sing this song and be the first Glinda to bring it to life." Other songs featured in the second act of the musical include the tragic "Thank Goodness," "Wonderful," a reprise of "I'm Not That Girl" sung by Glinda, "As Long As You're Mine," and "March of the Witch Hunters." And considering that songs were added by the filmmakers and no numbers were cut from Part One, expect to hear them all. Gold Derby was at CinemaCon back in April when the For Good trailer debuted with Erivo, Grande, and director Jon M. Chu in attendance. Chu set up the stakes of the movie explaining, "Our second movie deals with the consequences of the choices that were made by the characters these wonderful people play." As for the leading ladies, they weighed in on how the second half of the story affects their character. "Glinda has to really look at her reflection and discover what it means to be Glinda the Good," Grande said. "And Elphaba has to determine how to use her powers for the betterment of all of Oz from exile," added Erivo. In a word: good. The movie is still five months away, obviously, so wading too deep into the awards conversation would be beyond premature. However(!), the crafts for which the first Wicked received nominations (and in two cases won) are on display in the For Good trailer and seem easily on par. The movies were filmed simultaneously after all. Wicked earned 10 nominations in total, including Picture, Erivo for Actress, Grande for Supporting Actress, Costume Design, Production Design, Editing, Visual Effects, Sound, Score, and Makeup & Hairstyling. The category to keep perhaps the closest eye on if Team Wicked manages to land the plane on For Good would be Chu getting into Director as a tacit acknowledgment of his work across the two installments. When does come out? You'll be able to see Wicked: For Good when it hits on Nov. 21.
