Tuchel Explains Why Harry Kane May Not Play Until 40 Like Cristiano Ronaldo
Last Updated: The England captain continues to be in great form but coach Tuchel has doubts whether he can maintain his fitness standards like Cristiano Ronaldo. Head coach Thomas Tuchel sent a warning to Harry Kane after the England captain expressed his desire to prolong his playing career as long as possible. Kane, who will turn 32 in July, has his eyes set on the 2026 FIFA World Cup but is also looking to stretch his stint much beyond the quadrennial event. While the Bayern Munich striker is trying to follow in the footsteps of Portugal legend Cristiano Ronaldo, Tuchel reckons it would be difficult for him to keep his form and fitness at similar levels. Ronaldo, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, continues to maintain remarkable fitness standards. The 40-year-old is still bagging Golden Boots at the club level apart from major international honours. Ronaldo won the UEFA Nations League with the Portuguese side and is also planning an extension to his Saudi Pro League contract with Al-Nassr, for which he top-scored this season. 'I think it gets more and more difficult in today's game. Cristiano took a step into a league which is not as competitive as the Premier League or Spain, where he played before, as part of keeping his performance up. I think he is always the exception to the rule, we cannot go now from Cristiano Ronaldo and think everyone can play until 39 and 40 in today's game," Tuchel told reporters. 'It will be very demanding, professionalism is a given in today's game, otherwise you have no chance and Harry has this natural ability to score goals." Tuchel's remarks came even as Kane showed no signs of slowing down immediately. The English skipper scored the 450th goal of his professional career to help his team beat 173rd-ranked Andorra 1-0 in the 2027 World Cup qualifying game last Saturday, June 7. 'He scored his 450th goal in the Andorra match, it was a very decisive goal, a very important one and there are at the moment no signs he cannot do it at a high level. How long he can do it, I have not a crystal ball, let's see. He is in a club where they play dominant football, I think that can suit him," said Tuchel. 'Just the outlook until the World Cup, he knows that it is a crucial year for him, also in terms of fitness and being ready to compete in the World Cup in the heat, in the humidity." Gary Neville's greatest Premier League XI - but he can't pick Man Utd players
Manchester United legend Gary Neville was forced to pick his all-time Premier League XI without including any players from his former club and some of his choices caused controversy Gary Neville was put on the spot to select his ultimate Premier League XI, with the twist of excluding any Manchester United players. The former Red Devils stalwart amassed 20 major trophies under Sir Alex Ferguson, which includes a haul of 10 league titles and Champions League trophies. Neville, 50, faced this challenge during a live edition of The Overlap in 2022, alongside Roy Keane, Jamie Carragher, and host Kelly Cates. The only caveat was that he was banned from selecting any players that represented his boyhood club. Despite traditionally hailing Peter Schmeichel as the top-flight's finest keeper, Neville had to pivot to Liverpool's current number one Alisson to adhere to the no-United rule. His defence also included Liverpool's commanding leader Virgil van Dijk, which surprisingly drew jeers from the audience, prompting Neville to clarify: "I don't think they heard that I can't pick United players!" Neville's defensive lineup was bolstered by Chelsea stalwarts with Cesar Azpilicueta and Ashley Cole taking the full-back spots, while his former England colleague John Terry was chosen to pair up with Van Dijk at centre-back. Despite the calibre of his selections, the crowd's disapproval persisted, leading a bemused Neville to retort: "Who the f*** do you want in?!" With his choices limited to non-Manchester United representatives, he went for a dynamic duo made up of Arsenal's Patrick Vieira and Liverpool's Steven Gerrard. Carragher, ever the joker, couldn't resist a jibe at his fellow pundit: "I can't believe he's picked Gerrard over Scholes!" Neville next looked to Manchester City for inspiration, picking the mercurial David Silva as his attacking midfielder, reports the Express. The task of sifting through thirty years' worth of attacking brilliance didn't faze him, though he was restricted to those who hadn't donned the United shirt. Mohamed Salah of Liverpool earned his spot on the right wing, joining an elite set of Neville's list to make four Liverpool players chosen. Over on the left flank, Neville paid homage to Arsenal's Thierry Henry, selecting him for his prolific goal-scoring exploits that matched Salah's record of four Premier League Golden Boots. Up front, there was little debate as Neville decisively chose the Premier League's record scorer Alan Shearer who netted 260 goals during his time in the top-flight. Despite some murmurings for Chelsea legend Didier Drogba from the audience, an unswayed Neville stood firm on his decision to anchor his side with the Newcastle great. Cristiano Ronaldo teases departure from Saudi side Al-Nassr in cryptic post
Portuguese international and recipient of multiple Golden Boots, Cristiano Ronaldo has teased his departure from Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr in a social media message on the platform X and Instagram, just 30 minutes after his side's final Saudi Pro League game of the season ended in a 3-2 defeat. In the short statement Ronaldo wrote: "This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all," alongside a picture of him wearing the Al-Nassr strip. This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all. — Cristiano Ronaldo (@Cristiano) May 26, 2025 Ronaldo penned a two-year deal with the club at the end of 2022, making his debut in January 2023. He is currently in receipt of the highest salary ever in soccer, at €200 million per year. The social media post by the 40-year-old arrived around 30 minutes after the final whistle was blown in a 3-2 away loss to Al Fateh that will see them maintain their third place league position and Ronaldo claim top goal scorer for the season. Ronaldo was hoping to help Al-Nassr qualify for the AFC Champions League Elite, after the club won an appeal for fielding an ineligible player in a game in March, but the loss, combined with a win for second placers Al-Hilal will see the Riyadh-based club miss out on the international competition.
