Gondola Cabin Plummets to Snow at Canadian Ski Resort
A cabin from Kicking Horse Mountain Resort's Golden Eagle Express gondola fell to the snow near the ski area's base Monday morning, March 10, eyewitness who spoke with the CBC estimated that the gondola fell about ten feet. Images shared on social media appear to show the gondola resting in the snow near the Golden Eagle Express' base a statement, Kicking Horse Mountain Resort did not confirm how many people were aboard the gondola or if there were any injuries but said, "Our patrol team and first responders were rapidly dispatched on scene."A Reddit post broke the news with photos of the fallen gondola cabin. The statement added that Kicking Horse Mountain Resort's "safety teams will be working to unload the passengers as per standard operating procedures. A full inspection has been initiated to determinate and analyze root causes."The Golden Eagle Express, which accesses the majority of Kicking Horse Mountain Resort's upper mountain terrain, is closed until further notice, the statement said. The rest of the resort's lifts are also closed Horse Mountain Resort plans to provide an update about its regular operations later today. The incident follows a storm that dumped around 15 inches of snow on Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in the past 48 2016, 75 passengers were evacuated from the Golden Eagle Express after a power failure, the Calgary Herald is a developing story and may be updated.
