A ‘Land of the Lost' reboot is officially in the works at Netflix
In the latest "everything is getting a reboot" news, "Land of the Lost" — the throwback sci-fi adventure series that ran for three seasons on NBC from 1974 to 1976 — is getting a modern-day remake. Deadline reports that Netflix has closed a deal with Legendary Television to make a spruced-up version of the show for streaming. Like the O.G. series, which was created by Sid and Marty Krofft, the Netflix reboot will reportedly center on the Marshall family. Scientist-father Rick (portrayed in the original by Spencer Milligan) and his two children, Will and Holly (Wesley Eure and Kathy Coleman, respectively), accidentally go through a dimensional portal and find themselves stranded in an alternative universe inhabited by dinosaurs, a primate-like people called Pakuni, and reptilian humanoids called Sleestak. The '70s series utilized both live-action acting as well as stop-motion animation to portray the mysterious land as well as its exotic inhabitants. The Netflix remake will be produced by Sid and Marty Krofft, as well as Marty's daughter Deanna Krofft Pope. As the project is reportedly still in the early stages, the streamer has not announced which actors will be portraying the Marshall clan, nor when fans of the cult-status sci-fi favorite could expect the new "Land of the Lost" project to drop on the platform. Speaking of, if you're having a bit of dinosaur déjà vu, you'd be forgiven: "Land of the Lost" was previously remade in 1991, running for two seasons on ABC and starring Timothy Bottoms, Jennifer Drugan and Robert Gavin as the renamed-Porter family. And the original series was also given the big-screen treatment in 2009 in an adult-focused parody feature directed by Brad Silberling and starring Will Ferrell, Danny McBride, Anna Friel and Jorma Taccone. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. The '09 flick, which was produced by the Krofft brother, was widely panned. It has a dismal 26% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and won a Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off or Sequel. Here's hoping Netflix has a bit more luck with their own "Land of the Lost" take — the streamer historically has had quite a bit of success in rebooting and remaking time-honored pop-culture properties, from "The Karate Kid" (see: six seasons of "Cobra Kai") to "The Addams Family" (the smash-hit "Wednesday," now in its second season). The streaming juggernaut is also currently filming a reboot of another classic TV series, "Little House on the Prairie." Tom's Guide will keep you updated on all things related to Netflix's "Land of the Lost," including casting intel, plot points, release-date news and more.

Dakota Johnson says Hollywood is ‘a mess'
Dakota Johnson has described contemporary Hollywood as "a mess". The 35-year-old actor, who's currently promoting her A24 romcom The Materialists, made the comments on Sean Evans's show Hot Ones. When he asked her why Hollywood is risk-averse, she said: "I think it's hard when creative decisions are made by committee, and by people who don't even really watch movies or know anything about them, and that tends to be what's occurring a lot." She added that there are too many remakes in the film industry at the moment, saying: "When something does well, studios want to keep that going so they remake the same things, but humans don't want that. "They want fresh, they want to feel new things, experience new things, see new things, so I don't know, I guess it's all just a bit of a mess right now, isn't it?" The star has previously called out people in the industry who "don't have a creative bone in their body" when discussing her 2024 box office flop Madame Web, a comic book movie in which she played a superpowered paramedic. She told the Los Angeles Times: "I think unfortunately with Madame Web, it started out as something and turned into something else. And I was just sort of along for the ride at that point. But that happens. Bigger budget movies fail all the time." Johnson revealed earlier this month that after she won the Golden Raspberry Award (Razzie) for Worst Actress, for her role in Madame Web, she received a kind text from a fellow movie star: Sandra Bullock. She said that after the February event, she got a message from Bullock, who previously won two Razzies in 2010 for the film All About Steve - one for Worst Actress and one for Worst Couple, alongside Bradley Cooper. "Sandra Bullock sent me a voice note, being like, 'I heard you are in the Razzie Club and we should have brunch. We should have like a monthly brunch,'" Johnson explained. "But I freaked out getting this message from her because she's so iconic to me, as a movie star," she added. "I was like, 'Oh my god, it was just crazy.'" In her new film Materialists, which has received more positive reviews and is directed by Past Lives filmmaker Celine Song, Johnson plays a professional matchmaker called Lucy, who ends up caught in a love triangle with Pedro Pascal's Harry and Chris Evans's John. Angelina Jolie's 2002 comedy Life or Something Like It surges on Netflix despite harsh reviews
Angelina Jolie's 2002 romantic comedy Life or Something Like It has unexpectedly surged into Netflix UK's top 10 most-watched films, despite being critically panned upon its release. The film, which stars Jolie as TV reporter Lanie Kerrigan, follows her character's existential crisis after a street prophet predicts she will die in one week. Directed by Stephen Herek and co-starring Edward Burns and Tony Shalhoub, the film received overwhelmingly negative reviews during its original run, earning just $16.9 million at the box office against a $40 million budget. It currently holds a 28% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 121 reviews, with critics calling it 'predictable' and 'a miserable mess.' Despite this, Life or Something Like It has found new life on Netflix UK since its release on the platform this week. It now ranks fifth in the service's most-watched movies. Viewer reviews have been more forgiving, calling it 'light romantic fare' and 'a good movie for a Saturday afternoon.' Jolie's performance in the film was even nominated for a Golden Raspberry Award for worst actress at the time, though she has since gone on to win multiple prestigious awards, including two Oscars and three Golden Globes. In past interviews, Jolie shared that she took on the role to challenge herself in a comedic role and to portray a character vastly different from her own personality. Life or Something Like It is currently streaming on Netflix UK.

Social Media Drags Rachel Zegler as She Promotes Snow White in Spain
Rachel Zegler is once again at the center of online discourse as she embarks on the international press tour for Disney's live-action adaptation of Snow White. The actress, who has been a lightning rod for controversy since being cast as the iconic princess, was seen en route to Spain for the film's premiere, as shared by her stylist Sarah Slutsky on Instagram. While one might expect excitement surrounding the release of a Disney classic, the reaction on social media has been anything but celebratory. As images of Zegler traveling to Spain circulated online, users flooded comment sections with scathing remarks. One user wrote, 'My god, she really needs to win the Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Actress! That'll bring her down a peg…' Another added, 'This movie gonna bomb so hard.' Some critics speculated that the film's performance at the box office would be catastrophic. One user commented, 'The only revenue this film is gonna get is from its premiere, and that's for free.' Another stated, 'Ha ha ha! Have fun, Rachel Zegler. Can't wait to see you arrive to an empty theater. And if it's full, then clearly Disney paid people off.' The sentiment wasn't just about the film's commercial prospects. One commenter criticized Zegler's public statements, saying, 'I kind of felt bad for her at one point, as being cast is Disney's doing, not hers. I can even look past silly comments. We were all young once. The problem is, she kept it up. Actors should know when to be silent on things.' From the moment Zegler's casting was announced, Snow White has been at the center of an ongoing debate. Critics have questioned the decision to cast a Latina actress as the fair-skinned princess, a move Zegler defended by highlighting the story's popularity in Spanish-speaking countries. But her comments about the original 1937 animated film added fuel to the fire. Zegler described it as 'extremely dated' and pushed for a modern retelling that eliminates the traditional love story. Her remarks were met with significant backlash, with some accusing her of misunderstanding feminism and disrespecting the legacy of one of Disney's most beloved classics. The controversy surrounding Snow White has only intensified in recent months, forcing Disney to recalibrate its promotional strategy. The studio has reportedly scaled back its marketing efforts and opted for a low-key premiere at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood rather than a traditional grand red carpet event. Additionally, the film's creative choices have sparked criticism. Disney's decision to replace the seven dwarfs with 'magical creatures' came after actor Peter Dinklage called the concept of the original dwarfs 'backward.' However, this change alienated some audiences who viewed it as unnecessary and counterproductive. Despite the wave of criticism, Zegler remains publicly optimistic. In a recent interview, she attempted to reframe the backlash, stating, 'People are passionate about this character and this legacy. I just want to be a part of it.' With Snow White set for release on March 21, 2025, all eyes are on its box office performance. If the social media reaction is any indication, Disney may be bracing for one of its biggest misfires in recent history. Whether Zegler can weather the storm remains to be seen, but one thing is certain—the internet has already made up its mind. 7 Highlights From Lady Gaga's Jam-Packed Saturday Night Live Episode
Lady Gaga has received a wave of praise after serving double duty on Saturday Night Live over the weekend, as both host and musical guest. The Abracadabra singer has appeared on SNL as guest host and musical performer on numerous occasions in the last 15 years (more on that in a second), but Saturday marked her first time occupying both slots, following in the footsteps of Charli XCX and Timothée Chalamet, who also juggled both roles recently. Here's a selection of highlights and other stand-out moments from Gaga's big night at SNL… Talk about doing the most with a limited amount of space. Seriously, the above video is a must-watch for even the most casual of Lady Gaga fans, encompassing everything we love about her as a live performer. Although she was there to promote her new album, Gaga couldn't resist poking fun at the scathing reviews her last film Joker: Folie À Deux received towards the end of last year. 'Apparently, people thought it was awesome,' she quipped, before addressing the fact that she and co-star Joaquin Phoenix had just won the Golden Raspberry Award in the Worst On-Screen Duo category. 'The joke's on them. I love winning things!' Gaga said. 'My Razzie brings me one step closer to an EGORT. It's like an EGOT, but it's hurtful.' She ended the segment by vowing to 'sing', 'dance' and 'not do Joker 3'. While reflecting on her past appearances on SNL, she revealed that last time she hosted, she was joined during one performance by R Kelly, who is currently serving a 31-year combined sentence for multiple charges involving child sexual abuse, trafficking and racketeering. She explained: 'I'm so happy to be back at SNL. The last time I hosted was in 2013. And every aspect of my performance aged amazingly. 'Because there's no need to Google 'SNL 2013 Lady Gaga featuring R Kelly.' I won't bring it up!' Lady Gaga jokes about her 2013 SNL performance with R. Kelly during her opening monologue tonight:'Last time I hosted was in 2013 and every aspect of my performance aged amazingly. So there's no need to Google 'SNL 2013 Lady Gaga featuring R. Kelly'… we all won't.' — Pop Base (@PopBase) March 9, 2025 In 2019, following the release of the documentary Surviving R Kelly, Gaga pulled their duet Do What U Want from streaming services, and apologised for having collaborated with him on the song six years prior. She wrote at the time: 'I stand behind these women 1000%, believe them, know they are suffering and in pain, and feel strongly that their voices should be heard and taken seriously. 'What I am hearing about the allegations against R Kelly is absolutely horrifying and indefensible. As a victim of sexual assault myself, I made both the song and video [the latter of which was never released] at a dark time in my life, my intention was to create something extremely defiant and provocative because I was angry and still hadn't processed the trauma that had occurred in my own life. The song is called Do What U Want (With My Body), I think it's clear how explicitly twisted my thinking was at the time. 'If I could go back and have a talk with my younger self I'd tell her to go through the therapy I have since then, so that I could understand the confused post-traumatic state that I was in or if therapy was not available to me or anyone in my situation – to seek help, and speak as openly and honestly as possible about what we've been through.' She added: 'I can't go back, but I can go forward and continue to support women, men, and people of all sexual identities, and of all races, who are victims of sexual assault. I have demonstrated my stance on this issue and others many times throughout my career.' Gaga concluded: 'I'm sorry, both for my poor judgment when I was young, and for not speaking out sooner.' I stand by anyone who has ever been the victim of sexual assault: — Lady Gaga (@ladygaga) January 10, 2019 'It never runs,' Chloe Fineman said of the fictional mascara, to which Heidi Gardner responded: 'But sometimes, don't you kind of want it to?' 'You know… for the attention,' Gaga then added, in one of the episode's most note-perfect deliveries. The fact that Gaga herself is now a makeup mogul as the founder of Haus Labs just adds to the fun. We can only imagine how excited Gaga superfan and SNL cast member Bowen Yang will have been to get to do this 'performance' with the pop icon. In this skit, the pair played a wealthy couple on a date who perform an impromptu duet of Eric Clapton's Wonderful Tonight, only for things to take an increasingly chaotic turn as each verse continues. In the latest in SNL's 'Midnight Matinee' movie parodies, Gaga plays a high school student in Pip, about a Stuart Little-esque mouse who tries to win a weight lifting tournament to prove himself to his classmates. Watch till the end, as we promise this is a much more shocking – and, indeed, blood-spattered – ending than whatever you imagined. So, while one of Gaga's performances saw her using her imagination to make the most of an enclosed space, the other took a very different approach. While performing Mayhem cut Killah, Gaga and her dancers kicked things off in the SNL corridors, wandering around the studio and delivering some impressive choreo around the NBC building, before finally making it onto the show's main stage. Gaga has always been known for her 'more is more' approach, and that was certainly the case with this rendition of Killah, which encompasses dancing, a drum solo and even an unexpected costume change. Killah, indeed! Amazing.
