Dubai: Sheikh Hamdan announces Golden Visa for nurses

Dubai will now offer golden visas to nurses employed with Dubai Health who have served for more than 15 years under the directives of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence of the UAE. The announcement, which came on Monday, aims to recognise their invaluable contributions to the community and their crucial role in advancing the quality of healthcare services. Appreciating their hard work and unwavering commitment to the profession, Sheikh Hamdan has granted the long-term residency permit to more than 1,400 nurses from Dubai Health. He emphasised that nursing staff are at the forefront of the healthcare system and serve as essential partners in realising the vision of a healthier society and improved quality of life. He commended their daily dedication to patient care and commitment to the wellbeing of others, affirming that Dubai values excellence and honours those who serve with dedication. This directive coincides with International Nurses Day, observed annually on May 12, underscoring the leadership's ongoing commitment to supporting healthcare professionals and fostering an environment that empowers them to continue serving the community. This is not the first time that nursing staff in the UAE have been recognised for their hard work and dedication to the field. In November of 2021, a government directive was announced to grant Golden Visas to frontline workers and their families. In more recent times, Dubai also announced Golden Visas for outstanding private school teachers. The announcement had come from Sheikh Hamdan on the occasion of World Teachers Day on October 5, 2024.

UAE Expands 10-Year Residency to New Talent Categories Across Key Sectors

The UAE continues to solidify its status as a global magnet for top talent by expanding its 10-year Golden Visa to include a broader range of professionals. From educators and nurses to yacht owners and gaming experts, the initiative is opening new doors for individuals across diverse fields to live, work, and thrive in the country without the need for sponsorship. Here are the latest categories added to the Golden Visa programme: 1. Teachers and Educators In 2024, Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah introduced long-term residency for outstanding educators. Dubai made the announcement on World Teacher's Day, granting Golden Visas to private school teachers based on their impact on student development and education quality. Ras Al Khaimah soon followed, extending the visa to school leaders and teachers with at least three years of experience in the emirate, an advanced degree, and measurable contributions to school performance. 2. Nurses On International Nurses Day, May 12, Dubai honoured long-serving healthcare professionals by granting Golden Visas to nurses who have worked with Dubai Health for over 15 years. The initiative recognises the critical role nurses play in supporting community health and well-being. 3. Luxury Yacht Owners and Maritime Executives Abu Dhabi launched the 'Golden Quay' initiative in late 2024, targeting high-net-worth individuals in the maritime sector. Eligible yacht owners—whose vessels are 40 metres or longer—as well as key industry executives, can now obtain 10-year visas. The programme also covers immediate family members, aiming to attract further investment into the emirate's growing yachting industry. 4. Gaming Professionals and eSports Talent Dubai's push to become a regional gaming hub took a major leap forward in 2024 when it began offering Golden Visas to gaming professionals. Applicants must be at least 25 years old and demonstrate experience in roles such as eSports players, game developers, or content creators. The visa falls under the culture and arts category, encouraging global talent to set roots in the emirate. 5. Religious Scholars and Imams In a move to honour long-serving religious figures, Dubai extended Golden Visas in April 2024 to imams, preachers, muezzins, muftis, and researchers who have served the emirate for 20 years or more. The initiative, announced ahead of Eid Al Fitr, underscores the UAE's commitment to preserving religious and cultural values. 6. Content Creators and Influencers In early 2025, Dubai launched a new initiative through Creators HQ, offering Golden Visas to digital content creators, podcasters, influencers, and visual artists. The programme also invites advertising firms, media production houses, and fashion and lifestyle brands, creating a robust ecosystem for creative industries to flourish in the UAE. 7. Environmentalists – Blue Visa While technically a different category, the Blue Visa mirrors the Golden Visa's benefits, offering 10-year residency to individuals who've made exceptional contributions to environmental sustainability. This includes members of NGOs, international organisations, scientists, award-winning researchers, and globally recognised environmental activists working to protect ecosystems and promote sustainable living. The expansion of the UAE's long-term residency programme reflects a strategic push to diversify the nation's talent base and foster innovation across key sectors. By removing traditional barriers like employer sponsorship and frequent visa renewals, the initiative allows outstanding individuals to focus on meaningful work while calling the UAE home. UAE expands Golden Visa Program: 5 new categories added to attract global talent

In a bid to attract global talent, the UAE has decided to expand its Golden Visa program which offers long-term residency options to professionals in prime sectors. The visa offer was introduced in 2019 and now has been broadened to include five new categories. These new categories will provide 10-year residencies to people in diverse fields such as healthcare, education, digital content creation, e-sports, and luxury yacht ownership. This expansion was announced in May 2025. It is a strategic move to boost the UAE's economic development and strengthen its position as a global hub for innovation and knowledge-based industries. Here are the new five categories: Nurses with Long-Term Service : The new category includes nurses who have served in the healthcare sector for more than 15 years. This initiative was introduced this month only on the International Nurses Day to honour the role nurses supporting the country's healthcare system, especially as Dubai attracts millions of medical tourists every year. This long-term residency option offers nurses with stability and the opportunity to live and work in the UAE for up to 10 years. Teachers and Educators : Next, the category includes teachers and educational professionals, such as private school teachers, principals, and university staff with academic excellence. This initiative is designed to boost the UAE's education sector, which ranks 10th globally according to UNESCO. The program offers educators the chance to relocate with their families, further supporting the country's goal of enhancing educational standards and attracting top-tier talent to its schools and universities. Content Creators : The UAE has also included content creators in the category. It includes filmmakers, influencers, and digital nomads. The residency program, launched at the 1 Billion Followers Summit, will allow professionals to live and work in the UAE without needing a sponsor. This move is part of the UAE's broader strategy to strengthen its creative industries, with Dubai already serving as a major hub for digital content creation. It is designed to attract global talent in filmmaking, social media, and other digital media fields. E-Sports and Gaming Professionals : The UAE is also including Golden Visas to e-sports professionals and gamers. The applicants must be over the age of 25 and have accreditation from Dubai Culture or similar entities. This category aims to support the rapid growth of the gaming industry, which is valued at $1.8 billion. The UAE's investment in e-sports professionals is part of its strategy to become a leading center for digital innovation and to host global gaming events. Luxury Yacht Owners : The last category include owners of luxury yachts over 40 meters in length. This initiative, known as the Golden Quay program, targets high-net-worth individuals in the maritime industry. Yacht owners, as well as executives within the yacht industry, can apply for long-term residency in Abu Dhabi, further enhancing the emirate's appeal as a luxury tourism destination. This program supports the UAE's efforts to bolster its maritime and tourism sectors, valued at over $1.2 billion annually.
